Huawei HG 532 router

Been enjoying a quite constant average of around 800*k* -ish speeds for the past 18 months on a 5.5km line, via a TalkTalk branded Huawei HG 532 router, which was installed by a TalkTalk engineer for free, presumably as I was getting very slooooow speeds. The HG532 seems to have gone wibbly wobbly the past few weeks with some speed tests showing 0.05 Mbps! 600k at the mo. Do routers go past their sell by date?

They should last for some years but it may be the router resynced due to a storm and needs a reboot for it to go back to the normal speeds

So log into the web interface and find the current stats e.g. http://www.coolwebhome.co.uk/stats/routers.html#hg532

and then switch router off and on and once reconnected see if the stats have changed

Thanks Andrew. I'm trying to change the 'line standard' from ADSL to G.DMT in the HG 532 but can't see how to do this, ie nothing 'clickable'.

ADSL and G.DMT are the same thing. So why are you trying to change it?

A TalkTalk bod in the member forums suggested I do this

I would have to dig out my old HG532 but I think you can flip the connection mode, but out of the box the device should automatically pick the best performing standard

when I first put a home router in on my longish line (at least 5km) and it was connecting using ADSL2+ (@4mbit) I had to manually set a.gmt to get stability (@3.5mbit ish)

The router was set to multimode but was choosing the ADSL2+ option, and it needed the a.gmt for stability.

Maybe this is what the forums bod was thinking of.

However, as Andrew says, it sounds like yours is using a.gmt already.

Have you done all the other tests (test socket/ring wire etc)?

Speeds seem to have recovered a bit, I'm thinking the recent heat may be causing the router to overheat.
