Router Replacement Offer

[link to this post]

I have had a connection that started life as Post Office, morphed to Shell and then to TalkTalk. I was amused to receive an e-mail from TT recently, telling me that "We previously wrote to you, advising that your broadband router will no longer be able to receive further software and security updates." with a link to buy a new router from them for £80.
They had not written previously of course.

Since I have used my own routers for many years and the original 20+ year old router is in its box, with plastic mouldering to a rather unpleasant brown colour, ready to be returned when I leave TT, I shall not be taking up TT's offer, but I wonder whether others have received a similar bargain opportunity?

My brother is with Talk Talk, was moved there from Shell and still have the old shell router, nothing yet about them wanting him to buy another router, I would know if they did as I would get a phone call from my brother about it:).

He is changing at the end of the contract anyway, so not worth buying a Talk Talk router.

They must send all the routers to me, I've got a stack of TT routers.

Thanks for comments. The router on this line was a "Post Office" one. Hence it being so old its plastic is decomposing. It is certainly too old to be able to receive software updates remotely. So I think TT have flagged up the few customers left from the PO days.

I should point out that I was with Tiscali when TT brought them out, I stayed with TT until moving to TTB, and now back with TT, during this time I have been sent many different routers. When I was on FTTC the first course of action when encountering line problems seemed to be send out a new router, as the line was so poor this meant I was sent a new router most years, since being on FTTP I've only been sent routers on changing to TTB, then back to TT.
