Email problem?

[link to this post]

Hi all
I have recently gone live with TalkTalk and several of my friends have reported that some of the emails they send me get returned to them with an 'Unknown Address' error.
The problem seems to be intermittent.
Can anyone throw any light on this problem?
Is there a settling in period with TalkTalk?
The error is reported as:
5.1.0 - Unknown address error 550-'Unknown user'

Thanks

Best advice is do not rely on TT email. Use Google or similar and get them forwarded on to TT.

Thanks for your reply but it should work properly. I have friends on TalkTalk who have no problem at all with their email.

Update

Problem appears to be getting worse so rang 2nd line support. First contact no help at all, Second call got cutt off, Third time lucky ........ the gentleman I spoke to actually tried to email me and saw the error for himself!!
Needs to be looked at by a Network Engineer he said who had finished for the day of course.
Must call back tomorrow and try again.... hopefully not from square one!

Thanks

I can assure you that TT's email server has been quite unreliable over the last year. It is adviseable to make alternative arrangements whether it is supposed to work or not.

Wed 22nd - Received a call from support (UK) and went through it all again. Matter reffered up the ladder again. Awaiting another call.
Mail failure still occuring, sent myself 4 mails tonight and 1 failed.

Have you tried deleting your email account and recreating it from scratch ? It sounds like it may not have replicated itself onto all the email servers correctly for some reason or other and this could be why you are having some emails arrive but others reject.

Hi TalkTalkBoy
Thanks for your input.
Yes, the lady in support I spoke to today said she had deleted both of the email address I had setup and re-registered them but the problem is still evident.

I also setup a completely new address from scratch tonight and that is also affected by the same problem i.e 550 Unknown User when I send an email to it.

Thanks

Update
TalkTalk Network engineer rang and left a message that they had corrected the problem and all should be good. Unfortunately, I was out at the time so I could not ask him what they had found/done.

Anyway, so far I'm pleased to report that the problem does appear to have been fixed.
Will update this thread if the problem occurs again.

I have only recently joined TalkTalk and coming from Zen I was a little concerned that the move would prove a mistake but I must say in all my dealings with TalkTalk so far I cannot fault them. Long may it last.

Thanks
