Talk talk issues

[link to this post]

Hey all,

Getting very frustrated and thought some of you guys might be able to help a little.

Been with Talktalk for 15 months. until 3-4 months ago i think our exchange was IPStream.

Was consistently getting reasonable speeds in the nature of 3-4 mbps.

Then TT told us they were 'upgrading' our exchange and it would be down for an hour or so (was actually a day due to problems with our router!)

Since then the phone line has had a intermittent fault they claim to of fixed but have not ("the number you have called has not been recognized" - takes 2-3 attempts to get through) and the Broadband has gotten slower and slower.

Last night ran a speed test from this site and was getting 0.2mbps down, ran it again at 10am today and it stated 4.5mbps run it now and it is:-

Date 27/08/07 21:21:25
Speed Down 138.09 Kbps ( 0.1 Mbps )
Speed Up 361.13 Kbps ( 0.4 Mbps )
Port 8095
Server speedtest1.adslguide.org.uk

Called TT today, spoke to 2 people in 1st line support who stated my line should be at 5.5mbps and the second guy upped this 7.5mbps.

Called again got through eventually to second line support, who straight away told me that i was on a "sub-monitored profile limit, restricting the speed on connection". And this was the reason my speed was so poor.

When i questioned what my usage had been, he said he could not tell me and i had to write in (address supplied by him ofc).

He could not tell me how long this would be on for, and said that between 1am and 7am i should be okay (I work 9-5, like this is any use to me!)

Now reading things here, i appreciate if i am being profiled then s obe it ( cant do much about it now it appears) but i should still get higher speeds than 0.1mbps i think?

Other information about line etc.

As it is, this quality is terrible, i cannot stream video, i cannot play online games with my brother and surfing is even barely possible. Our contract is up in a month or 3 and as it stands i really should move, but money is tight and TT's deals are decent money wise.

If the service was like it was prior to the exchange upgrade (I presume this was LLU) then i'd be happy.

Can anyone help?

Many thanks, Robin

Your stats indicate you are sync'd at 8Megs which is the fastest available. The throughput is being limited by TT. Please search posts here to find out why. I would think that TT have you as either a heavy user (knowingly or not) or you are using P2P excessively (according to TT) and have triggered their FUP.

I think you would get similar treatment from most other large ISPs.

With the voice fault, report it but don't mention any BB problems. This will then get fixed in about 48 hours. If you mention BB it could take 7 days.

thanks for the response.

just ran another speed test now;

Date 28/08/07 00:11:20
Speed Down 976.39 Kbps ( 1 Mbps )
Speed Up 366.11 Kbps ( 0.4 Mbps )
Port 8095
Server speedtest1.adslguide.org.uk

this is 12:10 so before the 1am allowance and the speed has rasied to 1mb.

surely if it was just them it would not go up till 1am?

are my line stats ok as well, the db of 43 seems quite high?

Your stats indicate you are sync'd on ADSL2+ with TT which will get a faster sync in most cases than BT ADSL Max.

I assume that the profiling varies according to overall use on TT backhaul.
