TalkTalkBoy Dropped connection

[link to this post]

main router is a Netgear Wireless ADSL firewall Router DG834G-3
Firmware Version V4.01.28

the other router I've tried is a Dlink DSL-G604T

the router is plugged into master socket not face plat.

and computers are hard wired not wireless.

everything the 2nd line has asked me to do I have done

when I was trying the Dlink router I took the Netgear to a neighbour, who is also with talktalk,
and they had no problem at all with disconnections....

its worst when its raining....I think its water ingress somewhere on the line

i know im at the end of a long phone line,

98% of the line is under ground, it only on the pole when it at the end of the terrace I live in.

it wasn't to bad when I first moved to talktalk, But has got worst over time
the best speed I got was

Date 18/09/07 08:23:12
Speed Down 2364.52 Kbps ( 2.3 Mbps )
Speed Up 376.88 Kbps ( 0.4 Mbps )
Port 8095
Server speedtest1.adslguide.org.uk

Talktalk changed my profile to put me on to a more stable connection now speeds are

Date 04/12/07 08:44:41
Speed Down 1690.42 Kbps ( 1.7 Mbps )
Speed Up 186.35 Kbps ( 0.2 Mbps )
Port 8095
Server speedtest1.adslguide.org.uk

I was getting a 1.5Mbps down and 449kbps up with my old suppler.

I have had tickets upon tickets on this FAULT No 448483 and 468641 are the latest ones
also hope this helps you TRACKING NUMBER: A00000713335-00002372306

have phoned Netgear over router and they say its working find...

also im on talktalk LLU

This is the only part that matters. Are you plugged into the test socket inside the master or not? What are your neighbour's TT stats?

You look to be on a fixed 2 Meg profile. If so a 1 Meg connection will be better.

All the line dropping is a result of noise on your line. You can always ask for an ADSL trained BT engineer to come out and test the line if you can afford it if there is no fault found. If there is a fault a pair swap might help. Unfortunately all lines vary in performance and can take different routes back to the exchange even from neighbouring houses.

Finally look at threads which show the best routers for marginal lines and also the AR7 bug. A Speedtouch or Huawei (for TT assistance) router might be better.

yes its pluged into the test socket

I've been on think most of talktalk profiles BUT none worked

im on a fixed income has im a full time carer for my family
so can't afford to keep changing routers
and TalkTalk are sellling the Netgear router....so must be ok

and as for my neighbour's TT stats..I don't know

and as for line routes from the exchange, I been there before with BT when some neighbouring houses got ADSL at then 3K from the exchange, and when it went up to 10K from the exchange I was able to get 512,
if my problem is the result of line noise, one of the profile I was on before with TalkTalk would of worked,

like I said before it has got worst over time, and its worst when its raining
to me thats water ingress somewhere on the line, coursing my connection drop

all TalkTalk need to do is find out where!!!
and fix it

If you were on 512kbps ADSL with BT, you can get that profile with TT as well. At the moment you are on 2272kbps fixed, which is probably why you are having trouble.

[re: deleted] [link to this post]

yes I was on 512K before, then ADSL2+ came out and I was with Zen and on 1.5 Mbps down and 449Mbps up for over 12 months with No problem.

I was with TalkTalk for phone calls and line rental, then came to em for boardband.

had a couple of hic ups at the begining, like you do moving to any new provider.
then was getting 2Gb+ down and nearly 400 up. Great

BUT then started having problem when it rained heavy..drop connection.
and like I said before its has got worst over time,

I have been down to 512Mbps on talktalk profiles...but it was still the same

I know I can't get more then 2Mbps it would be nice
all am asking for is a conniction thats not going to drop with every rain drop thats hits the fault....
even some 2nd line technicians agreed with me that that was the problem.....or did they just say that to get me off the phone!!!!

and I thought having LLU was away forward not the way backwards

im just the person thats having all the problems with Talktalk.......
and came on here looking for some new advice, its not anyones fault I've been through it all with TalkTalk already.

we'll just have to see whats happen now!!!!

thank you for your help anyway

Re: TalkTalkBoy Dropped connection

[re: bolton2000] [link to this post]

If there is a fault on the line, TT will call out BT and fix it for free. This will be the same whether you are on BT or anyone else.

However you will have to escalate the fault report up to Opal before TT will call out BT. That seems to take time.

So you need to keep evidence of disconnections with the modem stats, so you can prove that it is worse when it rains and is not a time of day thing. Usually evenings are worse.

Some steps you can try are a call to the cancellations dept (they don't want to lose you) and also emailing Charles Dunstone has been known to sort out problems.

If you are getting disconnections on a 512kbps profile and it is not considered to be a fault, they might declare your line unsuitable for ADSL. Usually they try another pair before going this far. Interference can change over time and could be worse than when you had it a few years ago.

Good luck.

or it could be the fact he's got the LCP error on the line. If he calls TT and tells them that they'll fix it.
