Recommend an8 Port Router?

[link to this post]

Hi,

My old adsl router has died.
Can anyone recommend an 8 Port wired adsl router that is good with LLU'd talk talk?

Thanks

Jules.

don't, just get a normal router then add in an 8 way switch. Not as neat, but a _lot_ cheaper.

Sure, but I'd prefer all in one.

a quick hunt round says i can't find one with an ADSL interface, though i'm sure DrayTek used to do one, but their range doesn't have one listed anymore. To be fair once you break 4-way you are into the realms of full-on branch office router/switch hardware, and most companies opted for a cheaper solution of a seperate modem and router, I''ve been supporting business for a few years now and i think i've seen one 8-way ADSL router, and everyone else either on a standard 4-way router with a decent firewall attached, or they use an ethernet modem with a decent firewall attached.

I have found a couple but they seem to have iffy reviews.
Also having difficulty finding them online to buy.

I thought a box which did everything would be faster.

I do have a 5 port network router anyway.

So I could go for the cheap option.
I'm guessing it would plug into the uplink port of my router?

At the moment I have local network setup when my adsl router (which has died) is set at the gateway at 192.168.7.1

I'm guessing I wouldn't be able to do that will a basic adsl modem.

Any further comments / suggestions ?

The MT 882 is a router and firewall with one ethernet port and one USB port. You will need to fit a switch between it and your network if you need more ports.

AFAIK you can run it in PPPoE mode which takes out the firewall and converts it into a modem.

Can't see why you'd want to do this though.

just plug the RJ45 output on the SmartAx into the uplink port on a switch and you are ready to rock. The SmartAx is a full-fat home router, it just happens to only have 1 Ethernet port on it. The router will take care of everything else for you, including DHCP client IPs and a basic firewall. TBH I prefer the SmartAX to the HG520.
