Sudden downspeed loss and fluctuating

[link to this post]

Hi there, haven't posted for ages, been getting 3mbps+ reliably for ages which is fine.

Now our downspeed is fluctuating around 700Kbps BUT the upspeed is still a solid 700kbps............

Done all the usual checks tests etc etc. No visable changes to neighbours wiring, our line goes 15ft to the pole in the road then underground.

I suspect interference on download freq's from exchange to here.

link to forum thread I started.

Any ideas anyone, because if it is external changing ISP isn't going to help !!!!!

Cheers

System Up Time 0:1:3
ADSL Description
ADSL Status Showtime/Data
DSL Up Time 0:0:49
Data Path Interleaved
Standard G.dmt
Bandwidth Down/Up(kbps) 4192/896
SNR Margin Down/Up(dB) 11.0/9.0
Attenuation Down/Up(dB) 45.5/25.5
CRC Down/Up 200/0
FEC Down/Up 2429/18
HEC Down/Up 138/0

The basic data is not too bad, seen better but OK, concern from me is the error counts, the last three figures, which if the modem had simply been connected for 49 seconds looks not good. All the stats you've posted show short up times, perhaps the modem is disconnecting a lot.

One thing, peoples heating will be on, which can be a source of noise you did not have for months, and a house with Christmas lights on can be an issue, it could even be a house a few doors away, the more lights the more chance of an issue. Flashing lights are worse.

BT is upping the speed on many lines and we were warned to expect large fluctuations as this process stabilised. We too dropped from 1.8 to about .7 then recovered to 2.3.

If its BT doing it, then it is on Talk Talk's request and if you are on TalkTalk LLU BT has no interaction with the Opal (TalkTalk) DSLAM
