Thinking Of Moving To Talk Talk

Rite i am thinking of moving to talk talk but just need some info on what gets capped etc..
Im currentally on Entanet which has gone Bad, but my phone line is already with talk talk so was think of going for the free broadband. my exchange is llu enabled for talk talk and i would defo be goin for the speed boost and 80gb per Month download extras. I always use usenet so i hope this is not throttled? also what is the max speed available? My stats are below and i have always been able to get about 6.6 on usernet (until now) What sort of speed would i be looking at as according to the talk talk site it would be a max of 8.6???????
i would have thought i would get around 17 Meg

TT do not have a UseNet server, you will have to use a free one or subscribe to one. P2P gets throttled but the rest are not except when network capacity is reached in peak periods which is a form of throttling I suppose. My connection doesn't slow down at all now.

I get 14000kbps on 24dB attenuation with a 9dB noise margin so you should get 20000kbps I would estimate.

thats great i have got my own usenet server anyway so no problems with that just wanted to make sure they didnt throttle newsgroups.

Also if i order online do i have to order the speed boost at the same time or can i order that after?

You can order that after if you wish. You must allow 24/48 hours for the boost to activate once ordered. Also, you must wait 1 month before removing the boost again.

As ETEE has mentioned, you should be seeing sync speeds in excess of 20Mb.

It may also be useful to register to the forum - www.talktalkmembers.com. If you have any problems, they will get sorted there; the support is superb. You can even request for boosts using the forum if you wish.

I love my TalkTalk line, it has been very stable and fast. Then i discovered the forum and tweaked my line to my hearts content.

I'm also considering moving things over to Talk Talk, we currently have two telephone lines one is on BT and the other Talk Talk. If I move to talk talk it means I can cancel the BT line and the broadband package I'm currently on, I'd do this when I know the TT broadband is live and working.

Are there any hidden clauses I should look out for? What time does p2p throttling usually kick in? I've heard TT's service has improved greatly is this the case?

P2P is dynamically shaped. But it tends to become less strict after 12am-ish.

Need to make this very clear to people joining TalkTalk . They Traffic shape the poo out of P2P traffic at peak times , that includes Usernet .

So don't go joining TalkTalk if your heavily into your P2P as you will not be happy and that has not changed at TalkTalk and is not likely to change .

I don't know where this stands with the 80gig boost , but i also need to find out as i have to move back home as im being made redundant at the end of the month and mums got talktalk at home and im going to be sharing her line ( Gulp ).

Im not to worried as my mums line performed very well while i visited for Christmas and used Xbox Live . But any P2P i used , ran very slow during peak times , So you will need alou time for P2P downloads as they are heavily shaped .

But if i chip in £8 a month i can have a 22mb line with a 80gig download limit , sounds like a plan ( mums about 300m from exchange , following the cable ) .

Since Entanet went to pot I am also considering Talktalk. I currently have my phone line with them and it works fine, been with them for two years and very happy. I could get my broadband for free but worried about past performance.

If P2P is ok after midnight that's fine with me as long as the rest of the time and especially at the weekend browsing, gaming, streaming are fast and reliable. Didn't think they shaped usenet, nothing about this on their website or forums. Anyone else aware of this happening?

Really worried though over the 18 month contract length. Even if its fine now anything could happen going forward - just look at Entanet!

I Have TalkTalk LLU and my big worry is the 18 month contract which is why I have not switched. From reading different forums it appears that if everything does well then its an OK sevice. But if you have problems then it can be very hard to sort.

Do they have an escape route from the contract in the first month if everything goes west?

I think they do have a 30 day get out clause BUT I heard that for the first 30 days they put you on an uncongested pipe and allow you full speed THEN on to their normal pipes/service - so 30 day get out clause no real help. Still can't decide myself the 18 month contract is the pits! Any advice from anyone else?
