If you're swapping/changing and comparing, you may find it easier to change DNS at the individual machine rather than the router.

Hi Deadbeat smile

My disconnections are completely random.
Some days... 0
Some days... 2 to 4
Same days... 20 to 50
Nights are the same!
Some nights the router log shows had.. No disconnections - & - Some nights many disconnections.

you may find it easier to change DNS at the individual machine rather than the router.

That Wouldn't Work!
The problem is that Talk Talk are having problems with their DNS servers.

Hello all,

As you may have noticed we have been experiencing some issues with our DNS over the past few weeks. Below is the latest update from networks on this issue:

UPDATE 27/05 @16:30
The monitoring and diagnostics we have been undertaking has identified an issue with load balancing hardware, this is affecting some DNS queries at peak times. Over the next week extensive work is taking place to resolve the issues identified. This involves network reconfiguration and extra hardware installation to address these issues. In the meantime we will continue to monitor the situation and take tactical actions to rebalance the load across the network in order to minimise impact to our customers at peak times.

As soon as we know more we will post an update here.

In Our House....
1 x Laptop
1 x Desktop
1 x Sons PS3
1 x Sons XBox 360
1 x Sons iPod Touch
They all need to be working!
So!
It's much quicker to put the OpenDNS in the router than in each individual machine wink

Thanks!

Hi smile

I've just had a really strange phone call.
An asian sounding man asking me... " How is your broadband? "
I said... " Who are You? "
Man answered... " Broadband Technical Support "
Then he slipped up and said... " Do you have broadband? "
I said... " You Tell Me! "
Then I said... " Who are you actually working for "
Man answered... " Broadband Technical Support for BT "
He then said... " How is your broadband? .. Is it Slow? "
I then said... " Yes! - But I don't believe you are who you say you are "
So! - " Good By! "
And... Then I Slammed The Phone Down.

Hate Those Calls frown
Especially the call I had today... Knowing I am having BB problems.
I know in my heart he was a con man.
But can't help thinking... What If He Wasn't? blush

I see the second cutoff time does change.... I was thinking that if the standard HH:MM:SS format was reversed to SS:MM:HH as it sometimes is in some European states etc, there may be a clue. wink
That doesn't look to be the case though.

Signing up with the TPS will help stop most of these calls.

Hi Deadbeat smile

Sure we did sign up to the TPS about 5 years ago now.
TPS did seem to work for the first few years.
But... TPS seems to have fallen asleep in the last 18 months.

Guess I could try signing up again ( We must have done it by phone last time - No BB Back Then! )
However... Would TPS still work now that our phone line is with AOL ... Not BT ?

Thanks!

I have admin'd and mod'd much larger forums than the TTM forum and such contributions wouldn't have existed for more than a couple of minutes if at all.... Even if posted in the early AM.
There is no excuse whatsoever!

Did you deliberately choose to ignore the part of my post where i said adding posts to the thread bumps it to the BACK of the queue and as they only work office hours could easily miss the thread entirely if it is bumped regularly.

Edit to add - It has now gone and so has the other post full of swearing he added. wink

Hi Deadbeat smile

don't forget that TT are no strangers to using forced idle disconnects.

It does kind of feel like we are all playing a game of musical chairs frown
One of us has to be bumped off for another to get a place on BB.
It can't just be lack of DNS servers.
Coz the disconnections can still happen even when using alternative DNS.

So...
Yes! - Using alternative DNS will solve the DNS problems.
But...
No! - Using alternative DNS will NOT solve the disconnections.

I do think Talk Talk/AOL might me struggling with not having enough IP address to go around.
Especially... Peak Times - & - Busy BB Days!
Why else would they have dished out those strange low IP addresses .. That later had to be recalled blush

I'm sure they must know what is wrong by now ... They just aren't admitting it!

And still that.... " We are Rainbows " .. Advert gets played over and over on the TV.

They don't need no more customers... Until they start looking after the ones they've already got.
