Hi smile

There were no further PPP disconnections after the one at 4am on Sunday morning laugh

But.... Look What happened Last Night!

Mon, 2010-06-21 02:53:13 - Initialize LCP.
Mon, 2010-06-21 02:53:13 - LCP is allowed to come up.
Mon, 2010-06-21 02:53:15 - CHAP authentication success
Mon, 2010-06-21 09:27:39 - Send out NTP request to time-g.netgear.com
Mon, 2010-06-21 09:28:41 - Send out NTP request to time-h.netgear.com
Mon, 2010-06-21 09:30:15 - Send out NTP request to time-g.netgear.com
Mon, 2010-06-21 09:32:53 - Send out NTP request to time-h.netgear.com
Mon, 2010-06-21 09:37:39 - Send out NTP request to time-g.netgear.com

Mon, 2010-06-21 10:38:54 - Send out NTP request to time-h.netgear.com

My router must have completely rebooted itself.
Coz.... New Sync Speed! ... ( Did Not Reboot Myself! )
My Router Stats
Attenuation.. Down 34.5 | Up = 17.2
Noise Margin.. Down 7.1db | Up 12.0db
Sync.. Down = 11536 | Up = 1020

Now losing Sync ?
OR....
Has DLM given me a 6db profile - & - Trying to up my speed to match it ?

But... What do the Send out NTP request mean?
Don't really understand what they are frown
Can someone tell me what they are please?

Thanks! wink

PS. No computers were on at any of those router log times.

NTP requests are your router trying to find out the time from a time server and as usual the time server is failing to respond or is it your network down again?

ps for interest my LLU connection through an HG532 has suffered no problems. Keeping all fingers, toes, legs etc crossed. laugh laugh laugh

Hi ETEE smile

Thanks! .. At least I know what NTP Request means now wink

Disconnections have just started again frown

Mon, 2010-06-21 16:12:01 - LCP down.
Mon, 2010-06-21 16:12:09 - Initialize LCP.
Mon, 2010-06-21 16:12:10 - LCP is allowed to come up.
Mon, 2010-06-21 16:13:09 - Initialize LCP.
Mon, 2010-06-21 16:13:09 - LCP is allowed to come up.
Mon, 2010-06-21 16:13:11 - CHAP authentication success

Did NOT Lose Sync!
Noise Margin Seems To Be Holding!
But...
Was kind of glad in a way that I did get a new IP.
Coz even though sync has been the same all day 11536 .. & .. Still is 11536
Browsing has seemed awfully choppy and slow at times today.
The Disconnection = New IP Address... Seems to have speeded things up.

3 Speed Tests Done Earlier Today...
Down = 8.27 | Up = 0.79 | Ping = 42
Down = 7.48 | Up = 0.76 | Ping = 43
Down = 8.23 | Up = 0.78 | Ping = 43
Not Good! ... For a Sync of 11536 blush

Thanks!

Hi smile

The... Short Story

PPP disconnections have continued all day .. Slowly getting more frequent frown

So! - Just... Rebooted Router!

Strange Goings On! blush

My Router Stats
Attenuation.. Down = 35.0 | Up = 17.2 ( This Morning Was... Down 34.5 | Up = 17.2 )
Noise Margin.. Down 5.6db | Up 12.6db ( This Morning Was... Down 7.1db | Up = 12.0db )
Sync.. Down = 12278 | Up = 1020 ( This Morning Was...Down = 11536 | Up = 1020 )

1) When the router came on after I Rebooted... The Internet Light Wouldn't Stop Flashing!
2) After about 2 minutes... Disconnected Again!
3) Checked Router Log... Massive DOS Attack!
The Only Thing I Can Think Of....
The IP address that I gained from the reboot must have been getting DOS attacked frown
DOS Attack stopped once I'd gone through the... LCP Down / LCP Up ( PPP Disconnect )
PPP Disconnection came in handy for once laugh

PS.
Looks like DLM has got me - & - Now given me a profile of 6db.
But... Why has my Attenuation gone up from 34.5 - to 35.0 frown

Thanks!

First- measuring line attenuation is a black art, and not very precise. Four different routers will probably give you four different answers, even if they all sync at the same speed.

Second- 0.5db is neither here nor there, even 1db variation is not unusual.

Third- rounding errors mean that a real change of attenuation from 34.7db to 34.8db will give that result!

Hi billford smile

Haven't Changed My Router.
Just rebooted the same router that I always use.
Only thing I can think of...
1) Change in the weather ( Been really hot here today )
My Up attenuation was always 16.9db until the warm weather started.
Then one day I rebooted my router on a warm day... 17.1db
Then another day I rebooted my router on a hot day... 17.2db
Perhaps the same thing has now happened to my Down attenuation frown
2) The DOS Attack as I rebooted the router ( It was a really bad DOS attack )
Think it's really scary! How you can get a DOS attack just from a second hand IP address.

Anyway! ... You've put my mind at rest now wink

Thanks!

It remained for not minutes or hours, but days.... Even though at least several complaints were made to mods and admin.

I reported it using the "report" button (for want of a better word) and as you say it was not removed, I sent Emma a PM when I arrived home from work yesterday and within minutes it was removed and she sent me a PM thanking me for the report.

I will send her another PM asking if the report system needs attention.

Hi Brunel smile

Todays... News!

The PPP disconnections continued last night. ( Even when I was in bed ) frown

So! - This Morning... Rebooted Router!

The first time I rebooted my router.. Internet Light... Came Up Red - & - Stayed Red blush
This has never happened to me before.

So! - Rebooted Router - Again!

Today's Router Stats
Attenuation.. Down = 35.0 | Up = 17.3 ( Changed Again! )
Noise Margin.. Down = 6.1db | Up = 12.4db
Sync.. Down = 11564 | Up = 1020

DLM has definitely picked me up - & - I'm now on a profile of 6db laugh
Note!
AOL doesn't have a forum where staff can change our profiles.
So For Me... Being picked up by TT's DLM is kind of a good thing.
Coz it's the only way of me getting off the AOL default profile of 12db.
Up until a few days ago...
I'd been on a profile of 12db since my new contract started with AOL on April 21st.

Will now take a look at those links you've posted wink

Thanks!
