Hi Brunel smile

PPP ... Just Gone Again! frown

Re : You're Links
Ashamed to say... Don't really understand a lot of it blush
Sounds Rather Scary!
Wonder if it will have any effect on speeds or profiles, etc.
Get the feeling I'm going to end up on my little lonesome frown
Coz...
Don't think any members on TT forum have reported the PPP problem from my exchange : WNDEE

Trouble Is...
1) No Official AOL Forum
2) Not many people on the same AOL up to 24 mbps ( ADSL2+ ) as me just yet.
3) Think TT have a lot more customers than AOL .. To complain in the first place.

Thanks!

Hi Brunel smile

PPP disconnections are really bad again today frown
Think I'm on about my 7th one since 11.30 this morning.

Brunel
Please can you let them know...
Some of their AOL customers on the new 24 mbps ( ADSL2+ ) connections.
( Basically... The AOL customers on the Talk Talk network )
Are also being badly affected by the PPP - Authentication disconnections frown

Please add my exchange ( Connah's Quay = WNDEE ) to the list.

There are people complaining of AOL disconnections .. Here - & - There .. On the internet!
But with NO official AOL forum frown
You know how hard it has been to get people to listen on the TT forum.
Can you imagine how much harder it would have been for TT customers without the TT forum.
At least you can shout..... There's A Massive Problem!
I've got no where to go - & - No one to tell there's a problem.

Please Don't Say... Phone AOL
Coz that's like a trip to... AOHELL
Probably exactly the same phone support people that you get when you phone up Talk Talk.

Thanks!

PS.
My router is a... Netgear DGND3300
&
PPP disconnection problem started on 21st April 2010
When I started a new ( Up To 24mbps ) contract with AOL.
LCP Down - & - LCP UP ... Like a flamin Yo-yo ever since frown
Never Lose Sync!

Just gone again while typing this.

That's the harsh reality of your situation , you are not a Talktalk customer , so there for will not be supported by TalkTalk .

The LLU network is not run by TalkTalk but Opal Telecom just as O2 customers are on a network run by Be* , the support is down to your ISP , not somebody else's ISP .

Wish you luck as i would not like to be dealing with Talktalk with out the forum , so I feel you pain as i cant imagine AOL telephone support as being any good .

I am in what appears to be a daily technical chat with one of the TT engineers.

Some further changes today, and guess what, have now been connected >15Hrs.

If these changes/modifications prove successful then perhaps they will be the answer.

No doubt will then be applied across the network.

Hi Brunel smile

Yesterday
I had that disconnection at 2.50pm .. While typing a reply to you.
Then...
The disconnections suddenly Stopped!
Sadly Not For Long frown
The disconnections re-started at about 7.30pm

Never Lose Sync!
But always a new IP address.

Note!
When I do a speed test It usually always gives me Manchester 50m as the default.
But when I start having lots of PPP disconnections....
The speed test starts offering me Milton Keynes, Birmingham, etc.
And tells me that Manchester is 150m away.
Not sure what that's all about blush

Because the PPP disconnections were bad yesterday...
Just Rebooted Router - Again! ( Before Starting Up My Laptop )
Today's Router Stats
Attenuation.. Down = 35.0 | Up = 17.3
Noise Margin.. Down = 6.0db | Up = 12.1db
Sync.. Down = 12661 | Up = 1020

Only just booted up laptop - & - Read...
Some further changes today, and guess what, have now been connected >15Hrs.

You've got me holding my breath now wink
Everything Crossed... That we won't have any disconnections today.

Thanks!

Hi smile

Yesterday... Went all day with no problems laugh

Then about 10pm my son said it went off while he was playing his Xbox frown

And Then....

Thu, 2010-06-24 07:26:02 - LCP down.
Thu, 2010-06-24 07:26:10 - Initialize LCP.
Thu, 2010-06-24 07:26:12 - LCP is allowed to come up.

Thu, 2010-06-24 10:13:16 - LCP down.

Thu, 2010-06-24 10:15:24 - LCP is allowed to come up.
Thu, 2010-06-24 10:15:26 - CHAP authentication success

Today's Router Stats ( Not Rebooted Since Yesterday Morning )
Attenuation.. Down = 35.0 | Up = 17.3
Noise Margin.. Down = 4.7db | Up = 11.7db
Sync.. Down = 12661 | Up = 1020

You can see that I have NOT lost sync at any time during the PPP disconnections.

Don't know if to reboot my router now though.
I used to believe that my noise margin was the cause of the disconnections.
But after many weeks of watching my router stats....
I now fully believe it's the other way around frown
It's the disconnections that are causing my noise margin to drop.

How you getting on Brunel ?

Hi smile

Seeing my noise margin at 4.7 .. Couldn't Resist... Rebooted Router!

But Before I Did... Changed my MTU back down to 1432

AOL state an MTU of 1450 which is what I've been using for the past few weeks.
MTU of 1450 doesn't seem to cause me any problems.
However!
As I seem to be more on Talk Talk's system - Than AOL's old system...
Thought I'd try an MTU of 1432 just one last time.
Note: I'm trying to get my real speeds a bit closer to my sync speeds.

The old un-official AOL MTU of 1400 does Not seem to work very well for me any more.
Despite always using an MTU of 1400 on my old AOL ( 8 Mbps ) contract.
MTU of 1400 doesn't seem to work very well on my new AOL ( 24 mbps ) contract.

So I'm Trying Middle Ground... Talk Talks MTU 1432 laugh

New Router Stats
( MTU 1432 )
Attenuation.. Down = 35.0 | Up = 17.3
Noise Margin.. Down = 6.3db | Up = 12.5db
Sync.. Down = 12583 | Up = 1020

Brunel .. Any new news from TT Networks yet?

Hi smile

What's Going On?

In the last half an hour... My Download Speed Has Plummeted blush

This Morning... Down = 9.70 mbps | Up = 78 mbps | Ping = 43
Note: Tests done throughout the day... also showed very similar results.

Just Now... Down = 1.35 mbps | Up = 72 mbps | Ping = 42
And still suffering with the PPP disconnections frown

Hi Jack smile

Can't try TT forum frown
Coz... I'm Not With Talk Talk

My ISP Is AOL
But since getting a new ( Up To 24mbps ) contract...
Seem to be more hooked into the TT network than AOL's.

AOL - Owned By... Talk Talk
AOL & Talk Talk - Owned By... Opal

Speeds seem to have recovered now.
Wonder if they were fidling around... Trying to fix the authentication problem.
Haven't had speeds that low since about 4 years ago... When I was on an AOL 2mbps contract.
How I noticed something was wrong... SAS took 15 minutes to update blush

Back To Normal Now! laugh
Down = 9.49 | Up = 0.78 | Ping = 43

Just hope 1mbps speeds don't become as frequent as the disconnections.

Thanks! wink
