Hi woweebert smile

Nope! frown
Doesn't seem to matter what router people are using - or - what chipset that router contains.
Different people are using many different makes of modem router.
Netgear
D-Link
Huawei
And many other brands have been mentioned on the Talk Talk forum.

...... Tried to find the setting in my router like someone had posted a picture of in your thread.....

That setting changes the ADSL Mode to plain ADSL. It may stabilise a noisy line at the cost of much reduced sync but it will do nothing to cure PPP dropouts.

Back Again!

The work around below was posted over at the TT forum a while ago, it might be worth a try, all credit to Ken. wink

Since I provided my original suggestion to regain Broadband connection for your PC a number of things have happened.

Firstly, to those who say TalkTalk MUST resolve it's problems, I FULLY agree and, when it is resolved, we should all seek recompense for all the expenses we have incurred, whether our personal time or money spent on not needed equipment. If necessary, if a lawyer reads this, maybe a group action would be the way forward.

To those who just, out of hand, say they will NOT try what I have suggested, then so be it, if you want to go on having problems, when what I have suggested might at least enable you to regain some sanity and a stable connection that enables you to again enjoy the internet and doing those things you would prefer to be doing. As I have said to some people if, when driving you encounter roadworks and a diversion is signposted, would you just sit in your car at the roadworks and wait until the roadworks are completed or would you take the diiversion until the roadworks are completed. I wouild believe you would do that later so why not give my suggested work around (diversion) a go??

I have now been, except when I have checked what the situation is without using my work around and still found the disconnections happen about every 5 or 6 minutes, been solidly connected for 9 days including, without restarting my PC so it's working memory did not get too fragmented, had 1 session where I was connected for 3 days and my current connection has now been in place for over 74 hours.

For anyone reading this for the first time, or again and wants a reminder, this is what you need to do to try out my suggested work around:

"1. Broadband Connection

Select "Properties, then select "Options", where it says "Idle time before hanging up" set it to NEVER, if that is not the current setting. It could also, so as to speed up any needed reconnection, be best to set "Time between redial attempts" to 1 second and to tick "Redial if line is dropped".

2. E-Mail Facility (Windows Live Mail and Outlook Express and similar in other E-Mail facilities)

When running select "Tools", select "Options", select "General" and then set "Check for new messages every" so it is 2 minutes, click APPLY, then click OKAY and then restart the E-Mail facility.

3. Starting of Broadband and E-Mailk Facility

The E-Mail facility needs to be up and connected to Broadband inside of 4 to 5 minutes, else a disconnection is highly likely to occur."

As I keep saying just because this may give you a steady connection keep checking if you are still getting, if you do not do what I have suggested, the regular disconnections AND, if you do, bombard Talktalk with that fact until you find your connection has been stabilised by THEM.

Hi Jack smile

Thanks! ... But I've already read Kens email cure for the Disconnections.

Few Problems With It!
1) Many people like myself only use webmail.
2) Many people like myself are not prepared to leave computers on 24hours a day.
3) Maybe...
a. It did work for Ken.
b. Maybe his disconnections stopped by coincidence.
c. Maybe he never had the same authentication problem in the first place.

But I Can Tell You This...
The internet cuts out ( Loses Authentication ) whatever we're doing.
Right This Minute....
My son is on his desktop watching You Tube videos, listening to music - & - Playing his online game.
I'm typing this to you!
If the internet decides it wants to cut out... It Still Will! frown

Haven't Rebooted Router Since Yesterday!
Internet has been up and down like a Yo-yo for the last 24 hours.
But never once have I lost sync - Still... Down = 11899 | Up = 1020

Thanks! wink

Hi Deadbeat smile

Just thought perhaps it might have been hiding somewhere on - Auto
&
Thought ( If I Found It! ) perhaps I could set it to always be on - ADSL2+

If I'd had that setting... Guess it would have just given me something else to try.

Or you could see it as...
Wishful Thinking
Clutching at Straws
Desperation
We all know it's Talk Talk / AOL that have caused this problem frown
But not being able to do anything / try anything... Makes me feel so helpless.

Thanks! wink

Hi smile

Here is a question someone might be able to answer for me...

You know on the TT forum, some people have a little clock icon thngy.. So you can see their speeds?

Well...
Sometimes I can see their speed test results - No Problem!
&
Other times clicking on one of the little clock icons, just opens the forum again frown

Why does that happen?
Does that happen for everyone?

Have wondered if it all depends on what IP address I've managed to acquire after a disconnection.

Thanks!

I am not 100% sure but members have the option to show results or not show them, maybe the ones that dont work have been blocked by the member.

Hi Jack smile

At First... That's what I thought!

But I'm sure I went back to someone's test that I had seen previously.
Could no longer see them.
Next Day...
Was able to see them again.

Just Checked - & - Once again... I'm able to see TT speed results laugh

Strange!

Thanks!
