You may see a little more from the line but that could introduce stability issues.

I did wonder. Not worried though. Seems to be very stable, no disconnections, no crc errors. Plus, even though the connection is not quite double the previous one, it is much faster on downloads. If not double then not far off.....

Its not bad, fast enough for almost everything, so if stable I would not bother to push it much more.

To go faster would be a request to lower the target noise margin on the talktalk member forums. I'd probably be tempted to try 9dB, if the noise margin is stable over a 24 hour stable - stable means a variation of one 2 to 3dB between day and night.

I might do that. There does not seem to be much of a variation between night and day. Will check later and see if I am still sitting at 28db. Seems to be ok though as it's still there at the moment.

Can't do anything else just now cause I have a "stuck order" which I expect to be cleared round about the time my contract is due for renewal in 16 months or so.

Looking good, I would push it a little bit more though and ask for 6db profile like I have on mine. It's still stable, but I'm on interleaved also which helps.
You have some extra downstream attenuation compared to me so should sync at 15Mb + or so.

Definitely! Assuming you don't have any line stability issues do the following:

1) On talktalk forums request to be put on a 6db fast path profile
2) Buy yourself a broadcom 6358 chipset based ADSL2+ router eg Netgear DGND3300 (these are the best routers for handling noise on a line)
3) Use the DMT tool to bring down the downstream SNR even further to 2-3db.
4) Your modem should now sync between 18-20 meg and should stay synced for weeks even at such a low SNR
5) Enjoy!

I'm not going to buy a new router! I was just lucky that my old 4 port router appears to be ADSL2+ compatible.....

I will request a 6db profile with fastpath. I was thinking about it anyway, and if it all goes pear shaped then I can get it switched back to interleaved.

Hmm, swapped back to the TT supplied router after a profile change - speed dropped to around 10000, snr went to 12 and attenuation went down to 25 which, according to Kitz site, should give me a synch of 18000+

I do wonder what goes on there sometimes
