How to Prevent Talk Talk Pestering me

[link to this post]

I stupidly put my number in the Talk Talk checker, only to realise, only too late, that meant they could call me and try to sell me their dismal services. Is there any way I can stop this?

No, you agreed to it by entering your # frown. It is really underhand but nothing you can do to prevent it.

When they phone just tell them to remove you from their list and not call you again.

Been there, done that, told the £$%^%$$ where they could stick their company. The problem seems to disappear of its own accord after a month or so.

Thanks a lot - I will be firm. But to be honest, I am more concerned by some horror stories I have heard about Talk Talk migrating people without their consent (simply on the basis of them having keyed in their number) - is there a possibility they can/will do that?
(P.S. I have just been doing some research and it seems they are being investigated for such an abusive practice and that it is known as "slamming").

Just don't give them any personal data, particularly bank details. Then why would they want to migrate you if there is no way to charge you smile

In fact tell them nothing but "go away!".

If it can be shown they are slamming based on just entering a number into the online checker then that is very serious.

This is unlikely, since why bother to do this, they really only stand to gain if you do something provide bank account details. Suspect most slamming arises from the mall stands, and door to door sales.

I am somewhat sceptical of people, as have come across a few cases where people claim to have been slammed, but reality is they placed order, and tried to cancel the day before activation or similar. i.e. not all cases are as simple as people make out.

That's reassuring - I was beginning to think I was going to be the victim of an ISP hijack!

I got the dreaded talk talk call today and when I told the person on the other end that I did not want to be contacted again and wanted to be removed from their list, she hung up on me. I would like to make a complaint but do not want to provide them with any more personal information than they already have (namely my telephone number) - would be best to leave it and hope they give up or should I take it further? Thanks.

Probably best to leave it. My impression is that they only try and phone you once per Availability Check.

My experience of these calls is varied. One woman accepted my reason that I was just doing a survey of Checkers and immediately agreed to remove me from list. Another bloke continued doing a hard sell until I told him to remove me and hung up.
