Moving to Talk Talk

[link to this post]

After visiting a friends house nearby and finding that he:

A) Gets 8meg compared to my 6meg
2) Actually had his router set to G.DMT and actually had 12meg ADSL2

I've decided to move to Talk Talk. I'm currently with Zen (who provide an excellent service and are IMO the best ISP I've ever dealt with), but the slight cost saving and the increased Sync speed were too hard to resist.

Now, there seems to be mixed feelings about Talk Talk. I generally wouldn't have considered them before, but after reading some (mostly positive) posts here and on the members forum I've decided to risk it and take the 30 day No Quibble Guarantee if needed.

As I'm going LLU (I hope!), I'm a little worried about the migration process, especially so close to Christmas. The other potential issue is the Talk Talk web site quotes my line speed as 4.1meg. I'm the impatient type, so started the process on Sunday, with fingers and toes crossed that, as my friend who lives a few doors away, I'll receive the same speed.

Because It was hard to find recent experiences on the process, I'm planning to create a log here so other people who are planning to move can get an idea of the process. I'd be good to hear anyone else's (preferably recent, hopefully positive) experiences.

I've taken a bit of a gamble on this so I'm hoping I won't be disappointed. I'd hate to be without internet for even a day.

Thanks!

Edit: I appreciate I may be being over cautious, but I've heard some horror stories. People who aren't fans of TT may say I shouldn't be risking it just for faster sync and they may be right. I'm hoping they're not!

& what makes you think that changing ISPs will make your line go faster? Unless you are thinking of moving your friend's line to your place?

Most people here know that the migration process can be found at: http://www.robertos.me.uk/html/the_mac_process.html

Don't do it! TT is Full LLU, which means they take over ownership of your phone line. Thus making it difficult for you to move your BB in the future.

Because I'm currently on ADSL Max and the Talk Talk unbundled exchange is ADSL2.

He previously sync'd at around the same speed when he was on ADSL Max.

Admittedly, I'm presuming that when migrated I will on the same ASDL2 equipment at the exchange.

I've taken that into account so far, and whilst I don't like it, if there aren't any problems I shouldn't need to change in the future.

If there are problems..ahem, in the 30 days..I'll use the 30 day guarantee.
If there are problems outside the 30 days..I hope you say I told you so!

Out of interest, I don't see TT in your sig. Have you had experience of them elsewhere? How does Orange LLU differ?

Post your router stats and we can see if you can even make use of ADSL2+.

No, I'm on Orange as stated in my sig. Orange is Partial LLU. BT still owns the line; I can migrate without charge within hours if I wish.
