Porting

Trying to change provider from Virgin Media to TalkTalk, but TT tell me they can't port my number. I've written to them for an explanation, but had no reply. Can anyone advise please?

Your # is assigned to VM and cannot be moved to another provider as of now.

The document you quote is a plan for telephone number portability; you missed the statement:

CDB to be populated ... with all ported fixed numbers as soon as reasonably practicable and, in any event, no later than 31 December 2012.

When did this change please? (My number was on the BT network for a couple of years before moving it back to VM).

Why are some providers able to port and others not then? e.g. :-

The porting is all down to the agreements that are in place, and the mess is why there are plans that you found, i.e. with people moving phone numbers around a LOT more than they used to it is an issue.

So as usual the poor customer doesn't have "a leg to stand on"

So take it up with Ofcom. You've read their statements; indeed you found them

Waste of time IMHO.

Ofcom don't seem to want to help the customer at all. They don't even supply a contact email.

The number always remains the porting property of the original issuer.

TalkTalk and Virgin have no Number Portability agreement between each other, they only have agreements with BT.

You will not be able to move a Virgin or TalkTalk number to anyone other than BT.
