You don't need access to the HG612. Connect the FTP server to the HG532 and make sure the port forward rule is in place.

Yes - the HG612 is a modem only, not a router. It doesn't have an external IP address.

A single step of adding port-forwarding to the one router should be enough.

Of course, FTP is one of the trickier protocols to get to work through NAT. Perhaps the router isn't up to it?

What other router? The openreach labelled device is JUST a modem, ie. IP packets are simply passed onto the TalkTalk router

Your problem is that that the HG612 while configurable as a router, IS NOT working as a router in the setup Openreach have it.

the TalkTalk HG532, what IP address does it get on its WAN interface? This should be a public IP.

Got it all sorted now chaps...thanks for the advice....I had already done the port forwarding etc etc what I wasn't doing was using the dynamic IP addy from the HG612 to connect to the server with the port that I had allocated. smile that was it...how stupid of me to miss that small detail :|
