Capped Upload?

I have a friend who has AOL Broadband (that's who he pays) which I believe is run by TalkTalk currently?

He is on ADSL2+ now, D/L is okay but u/l seems to be capped at 448kbps - is this correct and if so, can it be removed please, and if so, how? The upstream noise margin looks set very high though?

AOL manage their BB separate to TT altho' they may use the same network.

It seems when they move users from 8 Mag ADSL Max to 24 Meg ADSL2+ they continue capping the upstream to 448K.

Thanks. I thought the AOL forum was dead as could only see a single post back in 2005! Now I see it's defaulted to 1 month ago and there are in fact some later than that. They generally don't make good reading though.

I'll leave it here for now- I think he's on a BT line contract still so maybe a change of ISP might improve things. But looks like he'll have FTTC in September anyway if predictions are correct - the cabinet is about 60 metres away from the house.... It's apparently had a new cover put on recently so something is happening.

Yes, so am I! But at the default setting I have of viewing posts in last month, the 2005 post is the only one shown... Change it to older than that and they appear of course

I'm only querying the upload since the guy is an author/publisher and uploads a lot of large PDFs for publishingproof reading and so on. I find the biggest advantage of moving to ADSL2+ is not the 2-3Mbps or so increase on d/l but the change from .37 to .9 Mbps on u/l!

AOL broadband seem to assume its users are not content generators, a move may be the easier solution.

Any existing AOL email addresses can still be used, as AOL Broadband in the UK is a different company to the AOL Email/Portal side.

I suspect he'd be better off waiting until September when fibre should arrive at this cabinet and then make a change - phone is still with BT it appears and BB on what is called 'AOL Platinum' service. I know the cab is No 12 from a Google pic and the exchange is STNEWMN (New Milton) with post code BH25 7BR if anyone can check that cabinet (it's about 150 feet, maybe less, away from the house assuming it serves it, and the cab outer has been upgraded with lots of road digging as well in past weeks)? SamKnows says

Only trouble with that is that these RFS dates have a habit of going back.

I was hoping that the activity around the cab looked promising? As it's literally round the corner, next time he sees anyone working there, he'll ask what is happening.
