Can anyone help me?

I have a legacy lineone account I use via webmail. I have a new laptop that has Windows8 64bit and Internet Explorer 10. When I login to webmail I get the webpage without any of the icons for mail etc that come via JavaScript.

Is there some add-on I need to install? Some setting I need to change?

Are you using Internet Explorer in Metro mode, or on the desktop? You want to open it in the desktop. A lot of websites do not behave when viewed in the Metro internet explorer.

By the way, in IE internet options, you can force IE to open in desktop mode when you click on the icon on the start screen, which is probably what you want to do.

Failing that, yes, I would install Java. www.java.com

Btw when I saw "Chris" as the username I thought "this must be a REALLY old forum account"

I have tried both metro and desktop and it doesn't work in either. I have read in my research that metro doesn't support javascript.

I have already installed Java and that didn't cure it

Java isn't javascript. Have you tried another browser e.g. Firefox?

Yes, I tried Google Chrome and the page displayed correctly. However, I am determined I wont be defeated by this!

Someone out there knows the answer.

What is the page you are trying to login to?

I can login to my legacy Tiscali a/c (like Lineone) here: http://www.talktalk.co.uk/mail/?check_cookie=1 with IE8.

Notice the check_cookie in the link. TT uses cookies to determine whether you have a TT, Lineone, Tiscali or whatever a/c. Maybe as it's a new PC you don't have the requisite cookie. I forget how you 1st acquire it. TT used to have a dialogue "A TT customer/ Not a customer/ A legacy customer" but I haven't seen it lately.

You should not need any add-ons. I doubt if even Java comes into it.

Try IE10 in compatibility mode. There is an icon at the end of the address bar, kind of looks like a broken circle. You can press this for each web page you visit.

It looks like a broken page doesn't it ?

I am using that web address, it works in Google Chrome.

I've added the address to the compatability mode list and it makes no difference
