In reply to a post by juzza10:
Just tried the Bt speed test but it says that the test cant currently be performed.
That's cuz it don't work on LLU lines; only intended for BTw lines.

Full stats from test socket would help, also try it in ADSL2 and G.dmt modes via http://192.168.1.1/adslcfg.html to see if they do better

Hi All

Had router directly in the test socket. Stats for attenuation about 4db better.

Mode: ADSL2 PLUS
Type: ANNEX_A
Status: Showtime

Downstream Upstream
Rate (Kbps): 6955 kbps 570 kbps

SNR Margin (dB): 4.1 6.1
Attenuation (dB): 35.0 17.6
Output Power (dBm): 0.0 12.3

Super Frames: 44891 44892
RS Correctable Errors: 122 0
RS Uncorrectable Errors: 44 0

HEC Errors: 781 0
Total Cells: 113496 37728
Data Cells: 310107 37728
Bit Errors: 0 0

Also tried it direct in socket but with front cover on which means Sky box is connected on an extension and is now 39dB.

Tried it in ADSL2 and G.dmt and the connection is only around 4mbit so no go!

Any thoughts guys?

Cheers for your help so far

Justin

If you need the Sky box connected to the line then stick another filter on it, i.e. double filter it.

Router stats look OK except for the sync speeds - give TT a shout and resetting your connection might be one option.

Do you think a BT iplate would help?

I have removed the bell wire on the master socket but not the extensions (and there is a socket in every room but not in use except for the phone in the office and the sky box) Does the iplate also have a filter for noise?

Cheers

very similar in the test socket to the normal location and still under-performing.

Looks like ADSL2+ covers up some of the issue but the 4M of ADSL2 / G.dmt is about 1/2 to 2/3 what it should be.

The iPlate has a choke to filter the ring wire (disconnecting it is better) and a common-mode filter for interference rejection. It probably won't make it worse, but I doubt it'll help a lot.

All the Iplate does is filter the bell wire.

You're probably better off getting a decent adsl filtered faceplate and feeding the house wiring from that. Run a separate feed for the DSL if it's not next to the master socket.

Judging from the speed vs attenuation stats you've posted I suspect there's a DC fault on the line. Have you asked TT to run a line test (they'll do this if you complain about noise on the phone side). You really do need to eliminate basic circuit problems before taking it further - just make sure that you get the OR techies to tell you what's going on if they come onsite and that you get TT to recheck the line every time.

OR have a bad habit of closing tickets when the lines not actually fixed. It's easier for them to pretend a problem doesn't exist than to deal with it - especially if that involves digging up a section of street/footpath (It took them 6 years to replace a section of bad cable feeding my house for this reason and there are multiple bad sections elsewhere they'd still prefer don't exist)

Do you want to stop spam, or do you just want to stop receiving it?
