Funny you should mention this, my TalkTalk fibre BQM graph is very similar -

http://www.thinkbroadband.com/ping/share-large/8978b...

User baby_frogmella, who is on TalkTalk Business, does not suffer from this issue - his graph looks normal.

In fact I brought up this issue, showing comparative BQM graphs on the TalkTalk community forums, after asking them whether it was down to congestion about three times they eventually replied -

For fibre we dont have access to that kind of information, its held by Open Reach and not accessible to us.

I had assumed TalkTalk used their own network for fibre, from the exchange, and would know how much capacity was being used?

They also seemed to ignore the graphs and asked me to do a ping and traceroute to Google, which are not going to show anything useful unless there is a significant problem. The basic impression I got from TalkTalk OCEs is that they are only interested in dealing with significant connection faults rather than poor quality connections.

I'm glad somebody else has noticed this, perhaps we can work together to find a resolution. smile

EDIT: If you're not used to the TalkTalk Community forums it takes about three days from the last thread post timestamp to get an OCE reply. Every time you get a reply to your thread it moves to the back of the queue of the OCE's to-do list.

Hiya smile

Well yes. After contacting TT community forums, it seems TT are not interested at solving this issue - they see it within normal range of performance. And will only assist when there is a major peering (hop) issue between a server and yourself.

Unfortunately gaming is affected on our connection (BQM ping graphs may relevant to this issue or not). Playing something like an MMO - GuildWars or WoW - it's absolutely fine. But for fast paced FPS (cs:go/battlefield) or RTS (Starcraft/Dota 2) - things get weird and jittery. When you're a competitive player, this becomes a problem.

While asking whether changing provider will make a difference - Andrew aka MrSaffron has suggested to find another person on the same exchange+cabinet but who is on a different provider. Then run similar tests of BQM + gaming and deduct whether this is cabinet/exchange congestion/problem or if its ISP side.

And now with luck such a person was found (friend neighbor). Now we are in the process of getting him a static IP address, to first see if BQM pings graphs are similar. Then we'll try to test gaming.

If it turns out to be a TT issue, and his connection is fine during same time periods. Then we are considering to change provider - unfortunately.

Hope this was helpful somewhat.

The BQM doesnt require a fixed IP as long as you accept that you cannot run it for weeks and weeks. Although the sign up states that you need a static IP it isnt enforced.

BT Infinity 2 - IP profile 77 / 20 - super fast!
Previously BE Unlimited - 21,000 Download 1,200 Upload but then moved house - 6,500 Down, 1Mb/s up - gutted!

These are the latency figures.

Not sure if it is relevant.

22.06ms Min 1am, Sun 7th Dec

117.23ms Max 4 am, Tue 23rd Dec

Ah yes indeed! Thank you.
