Potential ADSL2 User

What is the reliability from a users perspective.Ignoring the support side.
Is 9db SRN the norm?

I don't have a clue if these will be of use but here are my router stats -

Don't worry too much about customer support i have been with TT many years and the only time i ever used CS they were spot on and got my problem sorted quickly.

It all depends on the stability of your line. Sometimes a higher SNR is necessary to keep the connection stable. Multiple disconnects can raise snr and/or a fault on your line.

If you have a router that allows you to change SNR values, i'd recommend tinkering around to see what the line is capable of. I can get away with 3db but i do get a few more errors so stick with the 6.

But to answer your question, its a different case for everyone. I'm on a reasonably long line and don't really have issues with 6db but according to an engineer my line is great. Would i call 9db "normal" i'm not sure about that.

Thanks for the information. It also answers whether another router can be used instead of one supplied.

Looks like worth a punt, With fixed price contract.
9db was being bandied around elsewhere as being minimum setting with TT

I have this router and it is better than the one i had before especially the Wi-Fi signal (used to be a bit iffy in the back bedroom furthest from the router)

9db is the default noise margin

If you want to be with TT but have better customer service have you looked at Pulse8? Im with them. Its essentially a TT line but higher priority over regular TT customers. Pulse8 handle support and are great. Also they can tinker with noise margin for you, as i believe this isnt possible now with Talk Talk directly

Though that depends on your isp, some isps would like you to use the router they provide and give you a hard time about it but there are ways to extract the info you need should they fail to provide. Not sure if that can be discussed here though

Ah ok, its the first im hearing of that. Then again, TT are not in my area so i tend to look past anything regarding them.

Yeah i figured they would. That may just be for their fibre services? Either way it's still quite easy to extract the info you need with a quick google search.

I had the exact same problem with sky. They didn't give the info i needed so had to get it myself. Probably wise to read their ToS first though.

Sorry but 11mbps throughput on a synch of 18mbps is TERRIBLE!

You can do so much better!
