the line syncs at various different rates (from 6000 > 7500)
I have tried different router, microfilter and dsl cable.

I am pretty sure this means there is trouble with the line or exchange not the ISP

can anyone confirm the fault for me so I can beat the right people to death ?

thnx
Rob

How long have you been on ADSL Max ?

What is your ISP ?

What ADSL router are you using ?

Can you supply your line stats ?

Sounds like it's interference from AM radio transmissions (ADSL uses the same frequency range as AM radio).
AM radio signals propogate further during hours of darkness (exactly when you report connection problems), and are known to cause problems with ADSL lines.

There may be some things you can do, but without knowing further details of your installation, it's difficult to help further.

Info that will help us: -
1. Where is your router (or modem) connected to the 'phone line (extension or master socket)?
2. Are you using ADSL micro-filters, or an ADSL combined face-plate/splitter/filter?
3. Do you have any telephone extensions wired in your home?
4. Is the BT 'phone cable supplying your home underground or overhead wire from poles?
5. What are your router stats (downstream line attenuation, sync and SNR/noise margin) during daylight hours (when the line is more stable)?
6. What are the same stats for hours of darkness?
7. Does your SNR/noise margin vary, or swing wildly, when connected?

Giving UKFSN/Entanet a try
DL Sync 4600+ (now 2464 and screwed up by pointless 15db SNR target)
UL Sync 448

The router is connected to an extension socket in my room, I use micro filters at the two other telephone points in the house.(plus this one of course)

The BT cable coming into the house is overhead.

Currently
:

Downstream

SNR 6
Att 21
Data 7840

Upstream

SNR 19
att 12
Data 448

when it is most unstable the snr & att figures are pretty much the same, but the data rate downstream varies wildly between 6500ish to 7500ish.
this doesnt seem to be day night related, as it starts before it is dark and continues after it is light.

Until Thursday I had no problems at all, could give exact figures for the line until then though. I live in Leeds and we had the "mini-Tornado" which saw my netgear 834 Route,r two lan cables and the Lan card in 1 PC "fried" by a nearby lightning strike.

I replaced the router with my back-up d-link 514(which suffered the dropouts constantly day/night), but bought a new 834G netgear the next day. The new netgear refused to even see a line, so I took it back to the shop and exchanged for a d-link G624T. This is currently in use and suffers most drops early evening until morning (though this stabilised last night with not so many drops).

In short I belive that the massive storm we have had in some way has damaged equipment outside the house as well as the items I have replaced inside. It does seem to have improved over the past couple of days , but is still not up to the pre-storm standard (where 1 drop in a week would be significant)
