How much does interleaving reduce line speed?

[link to this post]

I am just wondering how much reduction in the DSL connection rate there is when interleaving is turned on?

Interleaving increases line speed (under adverse line conditions), at the expense of latency (higher "pings"). Interleaving doesn't do much for lines which are near perfect.

If you mean the synch rate, interleaving on my line costs me 512 k in synch. I used to synch at 8128 with fast path, now it's 7616 with interleaving.

Interleaving limits the sync rate to 7616, but if your sync rate is already at this level or less then interleaving doesn't reduce it further. As already mentioned, it can increase the sync rate with less than perfect lines.

I've read before that Interleaving limits the line to 7616.

My router will sync at up to 8096kbps maximum with interleaving on, though the maximum sync rate recognised by the system is 7968kbps. This puts my line onto a 7Mbps profile which is just 150kbps short of the full rate.

Anyone else with interleaving on get the same?

Yes, when noise margin allows I synch at 8096 (with interleaving enabled).

Interleaving isn't limiting the speed as such, but interleaving uses a small amount of bandwidth itself for communication purposes between the modem and exchange. Interleaving should not be necessary on shorter lines, but it can play dividends with stability on mid to long range lines.
