Help with wireless router

[link to this post]

Can any help me please?
I have a Speedtouch USB internet connection in my office at the bottom of my garden, the ADSL connection point being in my house. I use this for work and need to have the wired connection for VOIP to work effectively.

I would like to add a wireless router in my house for personal use.

Is it possible to have both the wirless and speedtouch cable connected to the microfilter at the same time/is there an alternative set up you could suggest?

only one ADSL device on a line at once. Use external antenna to connect house to garden office wirelessly ? wired ethernet connection to house ? Distances ?

Hi
Thanks for your reply. I am probably a long way out of my depth on this issue, but I will try to clarify.
My employer insists on the connection to my office being a cable connection, so the wireless to the office is a non starter. The telephone access point is at the side of my house and the office is some 30 ish metres down the garden.
I would prefer a wireless connection in the home simply as I use a laptop that I could bring indoors should I want to in the evening, so at any one time, the laptop would only be connected by one device or the other.
Would the simplets answer be to plug the wireless router in, in place of the wired unit as and when needed?

Fit a wireless router and for the connection to the garden office (assuming power is available and fed from your property) use home powerline networking.

And, because he would be unlikely to think of it, the boss would not ban that. As one who tends to use hard-wiring in preference to wifi whenever possible, I can see circumstances in which wifi may be useful. I can also see circumstances where powerline connections might be useful but if reliability were high on the agenda they would be far rarer than wifi (given some ideal conditions for the wireless set up, distance and intervening obstructions - across the garden to a wooden hut would be unlikely to be much of a problem).

Under the heading of "Manage your Manager" there may be some useful tips on how to deal with a dogmatist.

You created it I merely suggested connecting the house and office or office and house together wirelessly. Which end does what is up to you.

For 30 metres you could run Cat 5 between the two, send the phone line down 1 pair and the ethernet back up the others.

Tell the employer what they want to hear.
