my dsl confusion

[link to this post]

Hi,
I am a little confused about what has happened with my line.
I was on Virgin, ADSL max. I downgraded to 2mb. I then gave up and signed upto AOL with my MAC code.
A week has gone and I had heard nothing from AOL, so I phoned to check on how long this would take. I was told my account was active.
So, I tried and was able to connect to my new AOL account.
This is on the free month, adsl max settings.
So, I am now connecting at 6mb.
I am also still able to connect to Virgin, again at 6mb.
I was under the impression that when the MAC was used, my original ISP would be canceled and that I could only have one service on my line.
Is this the case or...?

There seems to be an overlap period when you can access both accounts. Possibly, though I don't know, the previous ISP has to allow you connection until your notice expires, given you pay for the service during that time.

I'm migrating on Thursday and was told that I would be able to login to either account on the day. I'll let you know...

I've seen a statement somewhere that the overlap period is 7 days - when you can connect to either account.

mooch.

Any idea what determines it, Phil? With my migration due tomorrow, it might be handy to know in advance what to expect. I know when I migrated to Max from fixed rate there was no overlap, but that seemed inevitable.

ISP policy I suspect. The old ISP may drop your RADIUS server entries as soon as the migration goes through, or leave them hanging around. I don't know what the Wholesale policy is on suspending SSB during migration.

Thanks, Phil. So I just wait and see who I'm connected to in the morning? Would there be any advantage in shutting down the router overnight, do you think, especially as Nilly are taking out one of their ERXs for maintenance?
