Blocks

Could someone please tell me what "Corrected" and "Uncorrected" b locks is in regards to my ADSL router stats.

Also, implications for high numbers etc.

Much appreciated.

It may have something to do with interleaving?

I think corrected blocks is referring to the corrected FEC errors and uncorrected blocks referring to uncorrected CRC errors on Fast path but I may be wrong?

Exactly what they say they are. Corrected blocks have had errors which have been corrected by the modem, and uncorrected blocks have errors that can't be corrected by the modem. If the uncorrected blocks are carrying data, then the data is corrupted and the computer will need to resend it. Large numbers of corrected errors show that the line has a lot of noise but it doesn't really matter as the modem is dealing with it. Uncorrected errors slow things down if they occur frequently due to the need to resend.

Thanks for the replies. It seems, after fitting a proper ADSL faceplate etc I am getting far more corrected blocks than uncorrected which I asume from the explainations is not a bad thing.

Plugging directly into the BT master with all extension wiring I got a sync of 1meg but PPP wouldnt start. Now I get anything between 2.2 and 4meg sync which is surprising given my line stats.

So, two some more questions:

I have a Draytek Vigor V2600+ which is a few years old running Firmware Version
: 2.5.9_UK. Is there a better router that will handle errors better or am I using the best?

Is there any value in rebooting the router every morning? At times I get 4meg, at other times, between 3.3 and 3.6, currently I went from 3.3 last night to 3.6 this morning.

With an SNR of around 5.5 to 8 and a att of 49.5, is a 3.3 to 4meg syn good?

Again, thanks in advance for all the help.

The Vigor 2600+ is a superb router for G.DMT/ADSL1 connections. I wouldn`t change it until you are ready for ADSL2+. I run the 2.5.9 firmware and it is rock solid.
