very strange Phone stats regarding 3 houses

[link to this post]

My router sync's at around 1.5 meg's, eclipse profile is at 288kb/s I'm now starting to wonder if my line is messed up somehow.

So I have done line checks using both samknows and btchecker On my House My next door neighbour to the right and the one to the left and these are the results.

MY HOUSE

According to BT Wholesale, your line should be able to support a 0.5Mbps or greater ADSL connection.

You cannot receive 2Mbps ADSL
You cannot receive 1Mbps ADSL
You may be able to receive 512Kbps ADSL(Engineer visit likely)
You may be able to receive 256Kbps ADSL(Engineer visit likely)

You are approximately 2.70km from the exchange (straight line distance).

MY NEXT DOOR NEIGHBOUR TO THE LEFT

According to BT Wholesale, your line should be able to support a 3.5Mbps or greater ADSL connection via ADSL Max.

You cannot receive 2Mbps ADSL
You may be able to receive 1Mbps ADSL
You can receive 512Kbps ADSL
You can receive 256Kbps ADSL

You are approximately 2.70km from the exchange (straight line distance).

MY NEXT DOOR NEIGHBOUR TO THE RIGHT

According to BT Wholesale, your line should be able to support a 5.5Mbps or greater ADSL connection via ADSL Max.

You can receive 2Mbps ADSL
You can receive 1Mbps ADSL
You can receive 512Kbps ADSL
You can receive 256Kbps ADSL

Any explanation to why these are so differant when we are on the same exchange, the same line distance and bang next door to each other?

Many thanks

My next door neighbour can only get a 512k service, when I was on fixed-rate I had 1Mbps. Clearly, the characteristics of our lines must be significantly different, possibly she has a longer route to the exchange, or she has more joints or some bad joints.

for a start these are estimates, and may not be accurate. The MaxDSL prediction is based on measured capacitance and this can be influenced by the internal wiring - extensions etc.

Different routes, diameter, material, joints etc can give adjacent lines in the same property different characteristics.

One attenuation value is worth 10 checker guesses.

No, other than to say that no two ADSL lines are ever the same. I have 2 ADSL lines here (I run a home business), and one line syncs at 1M faster than the other. To add to the mystery, the line with 6dB higher attenuation is the faster one.
