New ISP Preparation

I'm leaving AOL on Tuesday and joining Enta.net. (decision made, first month paid, connection email received, etc.)

I read somewhere that the first 10 days are the most important in determining what speeds I'll be able to receive (my profile?).

What steps can I take to ensure my line is primed for the best speeds possible during this time please ? (other than removing the copper ring wire from my telephone sockets, which I've already done).

As long as you've squeezed the best stats you can, by doing the above, then that's about it. Some say powering off each evening can help, but I just left mine connected 24/7, and have had no issues.

This is a common misconception. The first 10 days establishes a base line for fault reporting - BT will only accept that there is an ADSL fault if your line drops to 70% of this baseline, whcich is linked to the minimum speed reliably attained during the first 10 days.

The line speed profiling continues ad-infinitum after the 10 day period, which is a good thing, because line characteristics vary with the seasons (lines are noisier in the winter, because there are more hours of darkness, and radio signals which affect ADSL are stronger during darkness hours).
