Pictures off all Sockets and wires r these Correct

[link to this post]

Can you please check the following pictures and tell me if these are wired correctly. Allot of the wires are differant colours so It's easy to get confused. I'm wondering if any of these are wired wrong, as im getting alot of disconnections and low sync's occasionally.

Socket 1
Socket 2
Socket 3
Socket 4
Socket 5

The standard of the wiring and the termination is appalling and it likely to be causing you issues.

There is some alarm cable in there and what appears to be a flat handset cable (with the spade connectors on the ends) - the termination in the IDC sockets appears to have been done with a screwdriver which is likely to have bent the IDC terminal, and the wires in the back of the faceplate on the NTE5 have been bared and twisted together - both of which are a bad thing.

Assuming that all your other extension sockets are dead when the faceplate is removed, try plugging your modem / router directly into the test socket that is in the part that stays on the wall, and see if this improves matters.

the one you call socket 4 looks to be the faceplate off an NTE5 master - is this correct ? If so try plugging the router into the socket from which that was unplugged. On the other hand socket 2 has master components in it. The wiring colours (and type) all looks a bit non-standard.

Can you describe how these connect to the junction box of your previous post ?

It's a right mess. Pig's ear.

** Many wires approach the connector block from the wrong side

** There seems to be more than a bit of burglar alarm cable used, which is no good for adsl

** Some wires appear to be twisted together before putting into the IDC connector

Even if it is wired 'right', so that it works for voice, it will do your adsl no good.

There is not enough info to sort out which sockets connect to where, so I have not tried too hard. If you have an NTE5 master soket, get a faceplate filter and rewire for ADSL from there

OK, from the junction box there is two cables, one cable is going to a downstairs socket ( Socket 1) then from that socket to another downstairs socket ( Socket 2). The other cable from the junction box is going upstairs to a bedroom socket ( Socket 3), then from the bedroom socket to the study room socket ( Socket 4) then from the study room socket to my bedroom socket ( Socket 5 )where the router then connects to.

I have also drawn a little pic of the setup Diagram

With regards to the master socket (socket 4) there used to be another line into the study room, but this got disconnected so we used the box as an extention socket. (If I shouldn't post this then tell me and i will edit it out!)

So what can I do to rewire these sockets using the same cable, Are they wired with the correct colours? etc.

Thanks

OMG, I'm glad the cowboy who did that lot doesn't work in my area.

Looks like a bit of old red/black/green mains cable in one of those pics.

Amazed you can connect at all!

Mike.

Personally I would start again, the existing wire is obviously not twisted pair and is a right pigs ear.

You missed out the tape joint where it's all twisted together.

You can't rewire it with the same cable. Getting it all in the right colours is not going to make it work 1 jot better. The cable is wrong. BURGLAR ALARM CABLE IS NO GOOD FOR ADSL.
