Re: question about 8mb MAX

[re: asa_carter] [link to this post]

When you speak to them the important part is: -

Bandwidth (Up/Down) [kbps/kbps]: 288 / 2,272

This shows you are on a fixed 2M connection, if they try to steer in different directions keep stressing 288 up & 2272 down Sync speeds from router

aaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

I knew they would have none of it.

They told me to connect using an ethernet cable rather than using the wireless. They tried to tell me the difference in speeds was because I was using a wireless connection rather than the cable and he wouldn't listen to anything about the router stats.

Whats the point in having call centres in other countries if they are all muppets and cant understand english?

So I just phoned back and spoke to someone else..

They now say I am on a 2mb package despite all new packages being 8mb on the bt web site. They basically said it wasnt their problem and phone another department.

Speaking to them for an hour at 4p per minute and they couldn't have just said that in the first place? I should have recorded the call because most of the time she was speaking another language.

Great service eh?

Spoke to the billing dept (In England)

Getting switched to MAX in 5 days. They made an error when it was set up. At least I know it's getting sorted now.

I even phoned technical support on the day it was connected with concerns that I was getting 2mb and they told me to wait 15 days before phoning back as the MAX speed would need time to settle at the highest speed. F'ing idiots!

At least it should get fixed now, though why 5 days is a mystery.

This post really is re the speed test you ran. The link you were first given (http://speedtester....) is wrong, but actually took you to what must be an older version of the right one at www.speedtester....

The reason I say that is in the past when the speedtester was overloaded it automatically transferred you to an even older version at www.test.speedtester..., which reports your speed in the way you posted. The latest one doesn't do that, it just gives you a message saying too busy, try later.

What the latest one does when you can get to use it is tell you your IP Profile (configured speed or BRAS setting), as well as your test results. Finding out your IP Profile often gives a strong clue as to the cause of your problem once you are on Max, when looked at together with the modem/router stats.

Hope that helps.
