Very slow broadband speed.... Advice needed!

[link to this post]

Hi,

After more than 2 weeks having issue with this low speed, and BT technical team is not really helping, I decided to try my luck with the experts in this forum!

Anyway, I've just started with BT Broadband Option 1 about 2 mths ago. For the 1st mth+ I have been able to get good speed on my line, about 2.5 mbps. However, for the last 2 weeks everything gone mad. My speed almost consistently at 130kbps. For info, here are the details of my line taken from the router:

Downstream 3,456 Kbps
Upstream 448 Kbps
VPI/VCI 0/38
Type PPPoA
Modulation ITU-T G.992.1
Latency type Interleave
Noise margin (Down/Up) 14.8 dB / 21.0 dB
Line attenuation (Down/Up) 47.0 dB / 25.5 dB
Output power (Down/Up) 19.4 dBm / 12.1 dBm
Loss of Framing (Local) 54
Loss of Signal (Local) 34
Loss of Power (Local) 0
FEC Errors (Down/Up) 79 / 0
CRC Errors (Down/Up) 0 / 2147480001
HEC Errors (Down/Up) 0 / 0
Error Seconds (Local) 40

My speed results (with LAN connected):
Date 17/02/09 22:18:10
Speed Down 127.36 Kbps ( 0.1 Mbps )
Speed Up 378.10 Kbps ( 0.4 Mbps )

I have been connected to BT test socket for the last 2 days after advice from BT technical team. I have changed adsl cable, and micro filter. The only thing I haven't done is changing my Homehub.

I really appreciate any help. I'm now resigned to have BT engineer to come in and help to pinpoint the problem, but I'm not wanting to spend the money just yet!

Are you sure you are not being throttled because you have downloaded too much (in the eyes of BT)?

What does the BT speed test say, http://www.speedtester.bt.com/

Perhaps you have had a low sync event which has knocked down your BT IP profile.

See http://www.dslzoneuk.net/adslmax_explain... for an explanation.

I'm pretty sure I'm not being throttled as I'm not downloading, just normal internet browsing; Youtube, Facebook, etc. Although does using BT Vision On Demand counts?

Speedtester.bt.com says an error in determining my Assured Rate session and ask to try again later. Maybe something to do with this?

Not quite sure whether I have had a v.low sync before, the lowest I've seen was 1248 which was about 4 days ago.

I'm doing exactly what dslzoneuk recommended on the socket. I have no other extensions frm the main socket.

Thanks.

BT Vision nicks 2Meg of capacity when streaming content (as oppossed to freeview material), this creates an assured rate session and it is possible this has snafu'd leaving you with the remaining capacity for just downloads.

Helpdesk should be able to check that, but one guesses they've not.

Email me telephone number of line, and I'll try to see if BT Wholesale can spot anything, i.e. bypass retail
