Hello
My friend is having problems getting an internet connection. His ISP is London Web (lwcdial.net). He has used them for sometime without any problem. Over the last week he has had problems establish the ADSL connection with his Cisco router. Eventually the router packed up and he has replaced it with a Belkin. His ISP has provided the settings and they match what he has used for many years but he cannot establish an internet connection. BT has visited the exchange and his property and confirmed everything is OK. The ADSL light is lit on the router but not the internet. The ISP has set-up another account but still no joy. The ISP says everything is OK; BT says everything is OK but he cannot get an internet connection.
Any ideas? He doesn't know which way to turn.
Thanks

What VPI/VCI values are they using? Should be 0 and 38, and PPPoA/VCMux should be selected for encapsulation

Hello MrSaffron,
I saw the settings at the weekend. I can confirm that it is 0, 38 and PPPoA. Not sure about the VCMux - I'll ask him. I think these are standard settings for most ISPs.
The ISP has restated the settings and they match what my friend has been using for sometime - but now there's no connection - but the ADSL light is on the Belkin F5D8633/4 router.
It's a complete mystery.
Rgds

Assuming it is a BT Wholesale based service then the test login detailed at http://www.thinkbroadband.com/faq/sections/troublesh... is worth a try

Hello Andrew
Thnaks for the help. It would appear that the first router was faulty and now the second one has connected to the ISP - but not without some upgrades.
My friend contacted Belkin and spent sometime on the support line. It looks like the router was upset that it was talking to two computers with different operating systems (Vista and XP). The DSL link was fine, but because wireless was enabled the internet connect was failing.
I find this very strange. I have the same scenario (XP and Vista) connected wireless through my white BT Homehub - without any problems.
LW have confirmed they use BT Wholesale services.
If I get further details I will let you know.
Thanks again

A router should be independent of the computers OS, if it is not then time for a refund and return of the broken device.
Wireless routers by nature should cope with wireless and Ethernet in use at the same time.
I don't recommend Belkin so that may say something

Seconded...I wouldn't ever recommend Belkin, especially in a business environment.

Hello Andrew
I'll pass these comments on to my friend. I do have a friend and I don't have this problem!
Is there a link on the site to a recommended router? What would you recommend? I don't know how my friend ended up with a business broadband product but I know it is not used for business purposes.
Thanks

Almost impossible to recommend one model as different exchange hardware can affect the choice.
Speedtouch 585v6 is a recommended device for long lines, some swear by Billion devices, it varies a lot, and one model of a device can be great but the next not so good.
I think your problem was probably just a broken router if another is working fine.

Seconded...I wouldn't ever recommend Belkin, especially in a business environment. No problems with my Belkin 7633 on Bulldog back in the day.
