iPlate or ADSL Nation XTE 2005 ?

I understand that you can't have an iPlate and a ADSL Nation XTE 2005 fitted to the master socket, so which is better?

My current set-up is an XTE 2005 fitted to the master socket, filtered phone only sockets fitted to two extensions and a BB/Phone socket fitted to the third extension (where the router is).

I am suppose to be on an 8Mb link, and back in July 07 speed test regularly came back at 6+Mb, but currently I get 3-4Mb.

So should I leave this set-up alone or fit an iPlate and refit the original master socket?

Any advice gratefully accepted.

An iPlate will offer no advantage over that setup.

What sort of wiring are you using on the unfiltered extension to your router. Is it feasible to locate the router at the master socket as that will alway produce the best results (although a decent extension may be no different).

Your internal wiring has a direct impact on the rate your router will sync at but other than that has no effect on what actual download speed you achieve - that is mostly down to your choice of ISP but can be screwed up by using iffy WiFi.

All my extensions are 'professionally' fitted as they were installed when the house was built. The router extension has a ADLS Nation XTF-85 faceplate. At the moment my wifi is off and re-siting the router to the master socket is not a practical solution due to it's position and the location of all my computer equipment.

The one thing I forgot to mention is that I have a Sky box, soon to be Sky+, connected to the filtered output of the master socket.

What are the full line stats i.e. line rate, noise margins, attenuation.
You may already be getting the best line rate you can reasonably expect and slower throughput may not be due to lower line rate.

It looks like you may well be getting a forced resync soon at a lower rate.

I used to just manage 8Mbps on 35dB so your line could be performing less than optimally.

To see how much worse it is that it could be move the router temporarily to the master socket and check what sync you can get from the "test" socket inside. If it is about the same there isn't anything you can do to improve things. If it is a lot better consider permanently locating the router at the master and using HomePlug, WiFi, or ethernet cable to run your PCs with it there.

Professional phone extension wiring can often just mean you got charged for it. It certainly will not have been installed with ADSL in mind if it was installed several years ago.

Probably means they were Part P certified and means nothing in relation to telephone, people have found untwisted bell wire used, which would work but not help.

1. Remove the ADSL faceplate,
2. Check that every phone socket in the property is now not working
3. Plus ADSL modem and a filter into the test socket, this should be the best line connection speed possibe
4. Replace faceplate
5. Try ADSL modem into the ADSL socket, should be close to data from 3
6. Plug ADSL modem onto the end of any extension you use
7. Plug phones back in

At the point where the line connection speed drops you will have just plugged in what is causing your problem.
