Hi,
I've just come home from university to my parents house, and the internet here is attrocious, compared to how it used to be a few months back. Pinging google gives an average of ~900ms (over 500 pings), and some of them even end up timing out. Trying downloads from various sites that I'd expect some fast downloads from gives me (at most) 15kbp/s - something is definitely wrong here!
I've spoke to parents about the hardware, and they've had to replace the power supply to the router once, so I'm wondering if the router is the problem here. I've done other checks such as changing filters and using the test socket to no avail. Statistics from the router itself look fine:
Operation Data Upstream Downstream
Noise Margin 24 dB 12 dB
Attenuation 45 dB 38 dB
Hopefully tomorrow I can do some more extreme tests, like unplugging everything but the router and trying a different router all together, but can anyone think of any other potential problems that I've overlooked? This speed has been like this for weeks now, so I doubt it's something at BTs end
