Wireless Speed and Encryption

[link to this post]

I was having serious speed problems with my wireless connection (HomeHub 2.0) - till I disabled encryption. As a result, speeds have doubled. Is this normal?

Unexpectedly, my (tentative!) findings are that with WPA as opposed to WEP - speeds seem to have gone up to normal. Strange that Wep halves speeds, but WPA is as fast as having no encryption. Is this to do with this being an N router (homehub 2)?

perhaps WPA has more efficient encryption.

You can get the same with the different encryption methods on drives in linux, some perform very horrific whilst others are close to unencrypted performance.

Right, didn't realise encryption could have such an impact on performance!

P.S Another revelation is the massive benefit of increasing rwin - raised my wireless download speeds by about 50%!
