Quick question guys and gals.
After a series of bad thunder storms on monday afternoon ,
my relativley stable 2.1 meg on along line, ended up well below 1/2 a meg
concequentley my 1750 profile fell to the 250 mark.
After a router reboot the speed is back up to the original figure.
The question is ( as we are still having a few thunderstorms ) i have been turning the router off and restarting after the storms have cleared.
Will this effect the time in which it takes the exchange machinery to bring my profile back up to speed , or do i have to leave the router continually powered up and not turn it off in order to allow the profile to recover.
Thanks in advance
Paul

Paul As long as you are turning it off only once or twice a day, and then for fairly long periods, you should be fine so long as you are consistently syncing at the higher rate.

I think you are doing the right thing.
As long as your don't get any low syncs, things should be fine.
I've seen a few people having some problems with power cuts and dropping sync due to the storms earlier in the week.
It's a shame BT's systems can't see something 'going on' and rather than treating each loss of sync etc. as an isolated event be clever enough to see that maybe 100s+ of lines are doing strange things! Then they could be less harsh when letting their IP Profiles recover.
BT (ears/eyes closed):
There are no thunder storms LA LA LA - you must have a problem LA LA LA I'll make you go slow for the next 5 days LA LA LA

out of interest, what router was it ?
Phil
MaxDSL - goes as fast as it can and doesn't read the line checker first.
MaxDSL diagnostics
Are your kids pirates ? Limewire, Bearshare, Kazaa, BitTorrent, eMule are all tools of the trade.

Dizzy, I take it you can't get LLU at your exchange?

Hi , my router is the Billion 5200 with the 6db reduction firmware.
My local exchange is Garforth ,West Yorkshire.

I think i may have to wait till BT roll out fibre to the green box ,
as the LLU providers at my exchange aint too well thought of.

Up to you but i know Xilo offer tiscali LLU up to 50gb is £23.75 they buy the bandwidth from Tiscali as i understand it, but up to you whether you would risk going over to them, at least it would cut out the profiling. Glad I did, shame you aint got C&W as they offer there pro LLU packages with them.

I seem to have dropped into the middle of a BB void .I am on the garforth exchange
which gives me a 6km + line and 63.5db attenuation.
Yet i am actually less than 3km from the Castleford exchange which has
just been cleared as one of the next Fibre to the Cabinet upgrades.
