Training Status: Showtime What does it mean ?

After running the line stats with telnet I get the following common response :

Training Status: Showtime
...

What does it mean exactly ?

I have just upgraded from ADSL Max to ADSL2+ and my line is supposed to be "in training".
However I am not sure if it actually is.
I suspect the training has already finished or it has never been "activated".

Does this "Training Status" info indicate anything useful ?
Does the training stay on for the entire period of 10 days or it just kicks in now and then within thess 10 days ?

Some routers say 'showtime' when they have successfully connected to the exchange and are ready to go...


EDIT: The status's you are seeing aren't related to your 10 day training period - it's just your router starting up.

Showtime is a status peculiar to the ADSL standards and the meaning has nothing to do with any other use of the word training.

Some ISPs use "training" to mean the period during which they refuse to talk to you about poor speeds.

It is clear now.
So the info from the line stats is not related to the "connection training".
OK.

I hopped to get some indication from the line stats if the training is going on or not.
Now I have to rely on info supplied by the ISP.

The upgrade took place late evening on 20th Oct and connection (downstream) is stable but not faster than on ADSL Max.
I know there are many factors involved but I get the impression the speed got fixed as there are no fluctuations of any kind when testing with that tool from this site ...
The max speed just stays at 3.3Mbps ... I see no attempts to go beyond this limit.
The speed reported by the router is 4655kbps and it has not changed since yesterday (and is only marginally higher than that on ADSL Max -> 4224kbps).

I am testing my ISP for that right now ...

ADSL2 and ADSL2+ are not always better (and can be worse) than standard ADSL.

Put your stats into http://www2.farina1.com/ADSL/default.aspx for an estimate.

Your IP Profile wouldn't have changed yet - speedtester.bt.com to see your current one.

So in other words it is a bit too soon to panic.
Am I right ?
I will be away from Sunday till Friday.
Is there a chance of starting to see some changes in the profile in the next two days ?

Changes can take 'up to' 5 days (if you maintain your sync) - often things change in 3 days.


Worth doing the BT test so that you know where you stand at the moment.

Yes, I read some complains about service degradations so I am aware that this can happen.

I have the line stats from before and after the upgrade.
