The BTw profiling system will only give you 2.5 Mbps on 3,136 Kbps and if you were any slower than 2847 the profile will probably still be at 2.0Mbps.

There are clues that it may well have been slower still...

61dB attenuation + connection time 0 days, 3:15:46 + a < 6dB margin all suggest that your current sync may well be higher than your norm.

Check your IP profile at http://speedtester.bt.com/ I wouldn't be at all surprised if you say it is 1.5Mbps in which case 1.2Mbps down is about par for the course.

Hi Thanks

For months I've been having problamatic broadband, speeds ranging from the highs of 2.5mbps to lows of 0.10mbps. I am hoping BT have finally solved this.

When I run the BT Speedtester now I always get the following error message

Performance Tester is unable to run the speed test for your telephone number:0113*******. Please check that it is the correct telephone number for your service. Did you follow all the instructions given on the website, before initiating the speed test. If not, then please follow all the instructions carefully and try to run the test again. If you believe it is the correct number for your service and you have followed all the instructions then please ask your Service Provider whether you can use Performance Tester to test your Broadband speed. If yes, then ask him for the Service ID of your broadband connection and try again with this Service ID along with your Telephone Number. If this problem persists, raise the issue with your service provider.

I was able to run this previously before BT TWEAKED my broadband! Is there any other way of finding my IP / BRAS profile?

Thanks again

I only know of the BT tester. It could be that your ISP will tell you but of course it can change and in your own case I suspect it does quite often.

It would be to your advantage to get away from the nonsense that is the BTw DLM system - even a badly rated LLU provider may outperform a top quality IPstream one who has to battle against that abysmal system.

Check for LLU options - http://www.samknows.com/broadband/search.php

Well I'm on the Hunslet exchange and nearly swapped to O2 last summer.

Will probably jump ship this year from BT as I've had enough!

You won't regret moving from BT to O2. It won't fix your line (probably nothing will) but it will almost certainly cut your costs and at least your line will deliver what it can whenever it can.

Don't forget to sign up through Quidco for cashback. Don't hang around for ever either - I've seen quite a few reports of O2 enabled exchanges being at their maximum capacity and only able to offer O2 Access.
