ADSL & Netgear Nightmare! Please help.

[link to this post]

I hope that someone can help with my question and would like to thank you in advance for your help.

I currently have a 4MB ADSL line with sure cable & wireless Jersey (uk). I had been using a netgear dgn2000 router that until the last few days has been great. I had been getting d/l speeds of 3.92 with u/l of 512.
however 4 days ago it crapped out! changed this router for another of the same model. changed the firmware, replaced all the cables & microfilters ect.... still no joy. took it back to shop and swapped it for the Netgear DGN3500.. same problem with this one.. however my Older Netgear DG834G v.3 works fine.
my isp say nothing has changed and no work has been done in my area. however now i am only getting d/l speeds of 2.63 and uploads speeds of 0.23! Im at my wits end and my isp wants to charge me £78 just to check the lines in my house. (which I know are not at fault)

It would be useful if you can post the line stats with your normal and substitute routers - sync/attenuation/snrm

Another thing worth a mention, but it sounds unlikely in your circumstance (as you've tried different routers) is there is a quite well known issue with the LAN ports with Netgear DGN2000. Google DGN2000 lan ports to see others having problems.

I came across this with one of my clients recently. The confusing thing is the port doesn't completely fail it just runs very poorly. Could be quite a hard problem to find as you would tend to blame the ISP etc.

Swapping the network cable to another port is worth trying - on the router I was dealing with 3/4 ports had problems. Wireless is unaffected. After a little struggle with Netgear it was swapped under warranty.

What does it say in the logs? Are you sure you've got the correct username/password? Or are you saying it doesn't even sync?

The routers aren't getting bricked when you are upgrading the firmware are they? tongue smile

You must have to have used them originally to download the upgrade firmware from the net surely, as the original router was
....... crapped out
