Virgin removed my BT Socket

When virgin media installed a phone line in my house 2 years ago they removed the BT master socket and installed theirs in its place. Should they have done this?

I ask as I am looking to change provider and need a BT line and want to see if I can get virgin media to compensate towards the cost of having it reconnected.

No they shouldn't, but they very often do - I had to specifically tell them not to.
