XTE2005 Dropwire no. 9 (Orange, White, Green & Black)

[link to this post]

Hi guys,

As the subject suggests, I'm trying to connect the XTE-2005 onto to an NTE5 socket.

But when I opened it up, there are four wires, coloured: orange, white, green & black. After doing some research I found that this was called BT Dropwire No. 9.

The orange is currently connected to A on the NTE5 socket and the white to B on the NTE5 socket which leaves me to wonder where do I put the green and black, as there five pin locations on the XTE-2005:
B
A
5
3
2

With B & A going to ADSL and 5,3 & 2 going to the Phone.

Pics below:

Much obliged

You don't touch the BT connection, Orange / White to the A&B terminals. The green / black are spares and just need to be coiled up and put into the back box.
The XTE just replaces the lower part of the socket. The A&B on the XTE are if you want to run an unfiltered extension ie if your modem is located away from the NTE location.

I am confused

You show an XTE2005 but no wires, there will only be wires connected to it, if you are feeding ADSL to an extension, or creating a phone extension.

What is the socket in http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4003/5123662333_53453... looks different to the Openreach/BT master sockets I've seen a photo of it against the wall would help.

What are you trying to do?

This is a master socket I fitted an XTE2005 to, 3 years ago, and it had an ADSL extension running off of it so they could have their ADSL modem in the lounge

Sorry about that I didn't really explain.

Im trying to connect the XTE 2005 to the NTE master socket so I can have a double pronged socket so adsl and phone rather than a filter hanging down.

The picture below should clear it up:

p.s. the pic http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4003/5123662333_53453... is an openreach master socket that was recently installed (legally) bout three days ago by a superfast bt openreach engineer.

Thanks Batboy, but the problem I'm having is that none of the instructions apply to my situation i.e. I only have two wires A + B, but there are five slots on the XTE-2005 even if they didn't all need filling A + B are both for ADSL therefore the phone (5,3,2) being left empty.

Kind Regards

You just replace the faceplate with it. Are there wires on the existing faceplate?

The two wires hanging out in the picture http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4107/5124401700_48d11... were they connected to the small white faceplate? If so you should have noted which pins they were connected to and connect to the same numbers on the XTE2005.

If they were connected to nothing, then you simply unplug the microfilter, stuff the hanging wires back into the socket, and plug the XTE2005 in

NO NEED TO FIDDLE WITH THE WIRES GOING TO A AND B on the back of the wall socket. Break them and the bill will be over £100 to get it fixed

Sorry to sound a bit harsh, but I'm struggling to see the problem. you unscrew the lower, front part (NOT the whole thing as you have done, put it back!), unclip any wires fron the lower part, and put them into the same numbered connections on the new faceplate.

http://www.adslnation.com/downloads/docs/XTE-2005_Gu...

The bit you have with wires connected to A and B should be LEFT ALONE. Fix it back to the wall.

Any wires that were connected to the numbered terminals on the removable part should just be transferred to the new faceplate.

Job done.

since there are no extensions, nothing is connected to any of the faceplate terminals.

ie just replace the faceplate&filter with the new faceplate.
