Hi all,
I today had enough of the constant dropping of wireless connection of our tesco thomson tg580 modems we have had 2 of these.
Anyway today i installed a linksys modem and got all the details to set up from tesco, it has been running great all day.
But tonight it has been connecting 10 mins to 30mins then disconnecting from tesco network then re-connecting, is this normal?
here is a link to some reouts in my modem do they look right to the expert eye..
modem 1
modem 2
any feedback would be great

Don't like the "NOT TRAINED"! Do you know whether you are on ADSL(1) or ADSL2+?

Connect on demand will be a pain, so turn that off so you stay connected all the time and set the time zone correctly too

this is the first time i have ever set up my own modem.
do i need to call tesco to find out if i am adsl or adsl 2
thankyou for your replys though,,i have changed the constant connection and the time to gmt lol

Wrong ADSL mode and hardware not negotiating would result in zero connection ever.
Dont Tesco supply a modem of their own?

Then you should be getting nearly 14 Meg Sync.
Peculiar that Down Attn. reduces to 32 dB with ADSL2+ from 37 dB with "NOT TRAINED". Usually it increases by going to ADSL2+.

Well done! An improvement! Looks more realistic.
Tho' you should be getting 11-12 Meg. Wait and hope the NM reduces to 6 dB.

No, Sync not changed. Looks like it's not re-synced but NM has reduced significantly.
Try to hard reboot tomorrow daylight and look again.
EDIT: Before you do so look again and check it hasn't re-syced itself.

Much the same as before; not reaching its optimum.
Will say that updated firmware is much more consistent.

C&W LLU which Tesco use has a default target margin of 9dB, which pretty much explains the speed issues.
http://www.coolwebhome.co.uk/calc/calculator.php says 9289 Kbps is just below the range to expect, with the 13Meg really needing a 6dB target margin.

Well Tesco have been trying to deal with the noise on the line and the constant drop outs, i had open reach out at the end of last week.
He could find no fault with the line at that time and said it could be a fault at the ISP's end and to call them and ask for a Broadband Boost Job to be done on my line?
I did this and still no improvement, i had a Tesco's guy call me this morning to ask if it was improved, i informed him it was not and he said he would get it looked into again for me.
Today at midday my line went completely dead for half an hour no dial tone or broadband, when it reconnected i found my line had dropped from adsl+2 down to GDMT?
here is a pic of my router status gdmt status
what will this mean for me? will it sort my issue out? will i ever get a good speed again? why cant they just repair the line as i was getting good speeds for the last 7 years?

Line noise is not ISP problem.
If you're on BT line, do a noise test - dial 17070 and listen - if you can hear noise, report to BT fault. Don't mention that it's affecting your broadband connection, just the quality of phone calls and go from there.
