Latency Spike Affecting Both Cable and Fibre Connections

Hi

I have a Virgin cable connection and a BT Fibre connection in the same property. Last night both connections suffered a massive latency spike for over an hour (between 1am and 2am). Is this a coincidence, or could the same source (local noise etc.) have affected both?

Could be some node on the network being taken out and another (slower) route being used.

Thanks for your response. But wouldnt those two connections be on totally unrelated networks?

Ping tests running on Ethernet connected pcs - one connected to the cable router and the other to the Fibre router. Also using thinkbroadband ping monitor graphs.

The two event were NOT at the same time. One appeared to start at 02:00 for around 15 minutes and the second around 02:15 for 15-20 minutes so they were sequential.

As for te cause - possibly just co-incidence.
