I am taking it that the black cable is the feed from the street.

If so it is a matter of finding which white cable is going to your socket.

The wires on the screw terminals is correct colours so I am wondering if your line is on the other pair Green/Black..

There is 2 sockets both which have never been used since I lived hear so obviously some of them wires are to to with them. Its something like others have said to so with the big white wire as that feeds down to where my broadband is connected

Try Unknown's thinking of Orange/White in black cable to crimped pair Blue/Orange

If not try Orange/White to Green/Brown

If not going to need photos of other sockets innards wiring. and confirmation that Black cable is feed from the street.

Just to clear confusion if any, there is a black wire coming from out the house into the picture I sent. The white wire comes from the main socket on the floor level where the broadband plugs into and telephone line (I dont use a home phone as use mobile) and feeds to the picture i sent which has the 2 crimps on. Other wires seem redundant yet have tried wiring them up to no joy in any combination. Before I pulled the wire today everything worked as it should but it doesn't make sense something little is missing hear

So if the cable with the crimps on definitely go to your socket with the broadband hub in you need to try (even if it’s twist bare wires together for testing purposes first off) take the white orange from the black wire feed cable coming from the pole or underground feed to the blue orange with the crimps on, if this doesn’t work try another combination such as the white / orange incoming feed to the brown green, then alternative to the green black on the incoming feed to the two pairs separately to see if any of them give you service. Bare in mind it may take a few minutes for a hub to sync, if you have a phone to hand as soon as you have dial tone leave the hub plugged in and wait for sync.

Disregard the other cable if it goes to another unused socket this will cause a bridge tap unless you back wire with second pair (not required if second socket unused).

If the cable with the crimps on goes to the socket you want working then you need to connect the crimped Blue/Orange wires to the Orange/White of the black cable

The confusion is there are two white cables and it is not clear which one you are looking to connect
