My original dropwire ran 60m from pole to carrier pole - all through trees and then another 50m from carrier pole to house with 50% through trees. It was never worn through from the branches and only damaged when, several times, overheight vehicles went past - at least two were witnessed.

The current fibre drop has been in three years - pole to carrier still through trees and now has a lamp post resting on it putting it under strain. From carrier to house most trees removed and a re-route.

I would suggest that the damage to yours was not casued by branches in sucha short time but cause by those doing the original install.

In reply to a post by Turtletom:
I don't care what way it enters my property, whatever way works and is able to provide the services. If the company offer underground and chose to go overground then that was their decision not mine and now it has failed within a month of it being installed, this suggests it may not have being the best option to use.

If you have different networks in your area, they may choose different routes. e.g. in my town Toob are using poles, and Virgin Media are underground. Openreach hasn't any FTTP yet (except in the new build development). I gather F&W are in places, also underground. Not everyone has a choice of network.

I understand what you're saying, thankyou for clearing that up. I just assumed they would send a cable down the ducts that Virgin used

99.99% certain that that tree didi not damage the drop wire.

Ask to see where it has worn trough the outer sheath ...

Call that a tree, it's hardly more than a few twigs and it certainly didn't damage the fibre cable.smile

Had an engineer out today and within 10 mins said it wasn't the branches as the drop cable was receiving light but between that and going into the house there is a splice and that wasnt allowing light through.
Thankyou for all of yours advice.
