Cannot connect to MSN or MS sites

[link to this post]

Hi,

Ever since I connected to a new ISP through a new router modem( DLINK) I cant connect to MSN.co.uk OR Hotmail or MSN msngr. The pings just time out.
I have checked all firewall settings and nothing is blocked.All other sites are opening and the internet is well connected at 3-4 mb speeds.
It looks like an issue with the router rather than ISP. The laptop using the wireless connection cannot connect to these either, so the issue is not pc related.

Please advise.

find the router MTU setting and change to 1500.

Hi,
Thanks, this is what I get on TCP/IP analyser. Cannot connect to MSN.

MTU = 1500
MTU is fully optimized for broadband.

MSS = 1460
Maximum useful data in each packet = 1460, which equals MSS.

Default TCP Receive Window (RWIN) = 513920
RWIN Scaling (RFC1323) = 3 bits (scale factor of 6)
Unscaled TCP Receive Window = 64240

RWIN is a multiple of MSS
Other RWIN values that might work well with your current MTU/MSS:
513920 (MSS x 44 * scale factor of 8) <-- current value
256960 (MSS x 44 * scale factor of 4)
128480 (MSS x 44 * scale factor of 2)
64240 (MSS x 44)

bandwidth * delay product (Note this is not a speed test):

Your TCP Window limits you to: 20556.8 kbps (2569.6 KBytes/s) @ 200ms
Your TCP Window limits you to: 8222.72 kbps (1027.84 KBytes/s) @ 500ms

MTU Discovery (RFC1191) = ON

Time to live left = 58 hops
TTL value is ok.

Timestamps (RFC1323) = OFF
Selective Acknowledgements (RFC2018) = ON

IP type of service field (RFC1349) = 00000000 (0)

Check in your router web interface for the settings on your router. It needs to be equal or larger (max 1500) than your PC MTU to avoid you sending fragmented packets which may be discarded by some site firewalls

Hi,
MTU is 1500.
Firewall disabling doesnt make any difference.
Its some issue with a port being blocked but I cant figure it out yet!!!
