EASY ONE FOR YOU GUYS

I am with Talk Talk now with broadband and phone (over phone line DSL) I have just cut off the phone with them and aparently still going to receive the broadband.

My question is can I now migrate my broadband to say another provider with my MAC address or will this go pear shaped as I have cancelled my phone.

As far as I am aware (and im no hotshot at this bit) ADSL works using a filter the broadband works on the high bit and the phone works on the low (see technical now!) so really if the phone is off it shouldnt affect the broadband right?

For most ISPs you'll need a BT phoneline. Some ISPs (like Bulldog) will sell you theirs. No ISP that I'm aware of will provide ADSL without you paying somebody for the voice line.

Im thinking of going with Sky Broadband but no where on the site it says you have to have a BT line. It only says you need a BT line if you want to use Sky Talk their discount call package. I know physically you need some sort of line but the phone part doesnt affect the broadband right? So they are just activating the broadband part?

So in theory what im thinking is if I give them my MAC address they should just take over my currently live broadband with no phone account?

If that makes sence you see im currently with TalkTalk I cancelled the phone completely and aparently will just receive broadband.

Until Openreach cut you off, that is

Somebody has to be responsible for maintenance of the phone line itself which is nothing to do with the ADSL service so you have to pay line rental to someone. As yarwell impled in his post, eventually Openreach will notice and cut off your phone line which will cut off everything on it. Probably what you are seeing is a lag between you cancelling your line and it working thorugh the system to cut it off. It also means that when it does cut off it could take you upto three weeks to get back online though you might get things speeded up if you can geta sim provide of both services but don't bank on it.
