Bad ADSL2 problems, whats wrong with these stats?

I'm on bulldog and have been with them for about 2/3 months now, it's supposed to be the 16mbit ADSL2+, which it is since I've got 1mbit upload. But ever since I got the service I've had big problems with the line, not the voice aspect, just really bad speeds and well... take a look at these stats now:

This is using a USR 9108 router, it's not the routers fault, in fact it's the *only* router I've got that can sync with these terrible line stats, I have a speedtouch 585 that refuses to sync with this line.
The line is odd, back when the line was still training, it achieved 6/7mbps and has done so a few times since, a few weeks ago it synced at 4mbps for a DAY during which the speedtouch 585 worked. The attenuation has slowly crept up from 34/35 to 37.5, and the rain storm the other day made the connection mostly useless.
I've done everything I can on my end, plugged the router directly into the master socket for the line, redone wiring, got a newer phone.

I had a level 3 bulldog tech trying to fix it and he eventually just gave up, although he didn't seem to be particularly able to fix line problems, probably because BT do that, but will I be able to get BT to fix this?

One thing is that someone told me that my line's output power is a bit low compared to the output power of his 8mbit adsl line.

bit of a train wreck. Have you run it in the test socket behind the faceplate of the master socket ? If its that bad in the test socket then there's something adrift as the noise level is very high on the line. You're getting <2M on a line that should do at least 6M with plain old ADSL let alone the go faster stuff.

The high upstream looks to have more problems than the downstream, can you get them to limit the speed a bit on that or give it a higher target margin ?

The low power is a consequence of the high noise reducing the useable bandwidth.

I would suggest if the stats you provided are accurate that the problem is not with the downstream but actually the upstream. It's showing an attenuation of 0 (which I'd prolly say is wrong) but the SNR is only 5dB. Could be that the higher upstream speed is killing the downstream and hence the problems.

As to the output power this varies depending on the line conditions. Mine on my Cisco 1801 goes up and down with the SNR changes.

Yeah the router seems to misread the attenuation for the upstream. it's running an earlier firmware because putting the newer firmware on it stops it from syncing just like the 585

I think when the bulldog tech tried to 'fix' the line, he briefly tried it with the 8mb adsl profile, that got me around 2mb/512k as well.
He gave up when he put me on a 6db profile and it got me to just under 3mbps, I've had to make it sync with a higher snr because of the errored seconds, it seems to have become steadily worse lately.

I took the faceplate off and ran it from the test socket already, that obviously made no difference unfortunately.

It does sound like you have a physical problem with your line.

As for 'easy & quick' - have you ever dealt with BT before lol?! Took me weeks but eventually an engineer came out, looked at the line and advised no fault found... After sitting him down for a cup of tea I persuaded him to go to the distribution point at the end of the road. Wha'd'ya know - a busted piece of copper.

I pushed BT via my ISP - Zen. they were very effective. Use your ISP - that's one of the things they're paid for.

It did help that I had noise on my voice line - which just kept getting worse as the weeks rolled by.

Your supplier is Bulldog. You have to get them to get BT to look at the line.

That's what I was afraid of, I guess there's no easy way after all, I was hoping there'd be a secret phone number to get them to fix things Oh well, time to try to get bulldog's rather useless CS to get BT to fix it, that'll be fun since there's no problems with the voice part of the line
