Help improve Connection Speed

[link to this post]

Hi, im new to all this tinkering around with DSL connections but ill give it a try lol

the thing is, the house next door to mine can get ALOT better speeds than i am currently getting, and im not sure why that is.

My ISP is Bethere, and the fastest i have had is about 400kbs.

here is a link to a pic of my DSL stats that the router tells me. www.dt-jg.com/stats.jpg

also, where the phone line comes in to the house, it goes in to an old little wodden box, then out comes a wire to a phone socket.

i was wondering if my speed could be improved if i replaced this box to a newer type of box.

can anyone suggest the best things to try?

and if you want pictures of anything i can easily do so.

thanks alot

I'm assuming you mean 400 KB/sec (kilobytes per second) rather than 400Kbs (kilobits per second).

You're connected at 3.3Mbps downstream so if you mean 400 KB/sec it's pretty good already. I get just over that and I connect at 3.7Mbps with UK Online.

I would think because your line might go on a different route to the exchange i.e. it could be longer or have more joints in it, etc.

This makes no difference!

The house next to me only gets a fixed 512 service, I used to get 1Mbps. Their attenuation is 62db, mine was 52db. It's not the few yards, but the route and joints back to the exchange.
